From AOS to 2yr GC To US Citizen- How does this all go??

Hey guys- I am still very early in this whole process (filing AOS) but, eventually I would like to be able to sponsor my younger sister for her greencard.Trying to create a timeline of sorts.

I would like to know how long each leg of the process takes (an estimate will work) and what forms I need to send and when (I know to remove the conditions of the 2 year GC- you start that process some specified days B4 your card expires).

So here goes:confused::confused:

1. AOS- filed in feb. 2008-lets assume Interview and approval occur in August.-does your 2 year card start from the date of interview approval, the date of the interview or the date of your marriage?

2. Removal of conditions of 2 year GC:- How long does this take- I have heard its about 6 months or so- is that a fair estimate?
-again, when I receive this 10 year card what will be its start date?

3. How long do I have to wait to apply to be a USC-I'll still be married :).
-when do I apply- and how long until until I can get sworn in?

And of course, when can I file for my sister- I really would prefer to be a citizen so she doesn't have to wait on a priority date.

Thanks for all input and I hope this may bring forth some answers for anyone else who has similar questions.

I feel as if I am married to the USCIS....LOL.

I believe the 2 year card starts from when you are approved or when card production is ordered, usually the time inbetween the two is not too long.

By then youd hope its taking them 6 months, i think its taking a little bit longer right now or maybe around there, but they will extend your 2 year cond green card for 1 year, and the start time for the ten year card will be the same, when removal conditions approved or when card production ordered.

3. How long do I have to wait to apply to be a USC-I'll still be married :).

if you are married to a USC you can apply for USC after 3 years, otherwise 5 years. and this process ususally takes longer, but really it varies for most people, again uscis is very inconsistent with naturalization as they are with everything else, they say they want it to take 6 months, but could be longer. but like i said earlier, by the time its time for you to apply, they could be processing everything in like 2 or 3 months, who knows, it too far too tell. right now however because of last julys fee increase everything is stil taking longer becaues of backlog

And of course, when can I file for my sister- I really would prefer to be a citizen so she doesn't have to wait on a priority date.
like you said, when you become a citizen, there is no faster way currently

i have answered your q in red above to the best of my knowledge, someone else can elaborate if you see something i put is wrong or correct me.

after you become a citizen, you will be able to file I-130 for your sister. However, she is in for a very long wait of 12-15 years for her priority date to become current.

the only people for whom a visa number is available immediately are minor children, parents and spouses of US citizens.

3. How long do I have to wait to apply to be a USC-I'll still be married :).

Assuming you are still married to the same USC, you become eligible to apply 3 yrs from the "resident since" date shown on your GC. Usually this is the same date when your I-485 is approved. You can actually apply 90 days prior to that date, but basically you are looking at a 3yr wait.

Processing times vary due to many factors. Right now, they range from 6 months to many years. The key thing to hope is that you don't get stuck in namecheck.

Bmore Hopeful,
You really want to test the capabilities of your crystal bowl? :) Each applicant who goes through I-485, I-751 and N-400 will have a unique combination of processing/approval times. Here are mine:-
I-485 = 11 months
I-751 = 75 days
N-400 = 4 months

By sheer coincidence my K-1 entry to the US was 11/21/02 and my oath ceremony was 11/21/06. So it took me 4 complete years to complete my set!!!
