F2A is Jan 2010 in September's Visa Bulletin!

Hold on ! Do not commet so negatively.. there are people keeping lots of hopes from these recent fast movement.. :)

No he is full of it. Looking back to 2003 i dont see any retrogressions at the beginning of the next fiscal year for family based visas.

Also looking back at the past 3 years you can see the waiting times are decreasing, esp after 2008.

That is the FACTUAL pattern, not somebody's imaginary fear mongering of the october bulletin.

Jacko and Triple.. I also looked it up also for the last few years and didn't see any retrogression, at least in the F2A. Would you please care to post some links to your "facts"?

I've seen it on the EB side in the past, where visa demand was insufficient to use up all the numbers so the dates moved far forward (or even to 'Current') near the end of the fiscal year to stimulate demand. This happened 2 or 3 years ago, USCIS tried to roll the dates back mid-month and a lawsuit ensued. Once October 1st rolled around, the dates moved back again.

The only other way to explain such a rapid movement of FB2A dates is that hardly anyone filed a petition in FB2A between 2006 and the end of 2009. You tell me which of my two scenaria is more likely.

Jacko/TRC/Triple - question: what happens if retrogression kicks in while a case is being processed at NVC?

That's because there wasn't massive forward movement in the FB categories at the end of those fiscal years. But some of those years had big forward movement in EB, which was followed by retrogression in October.

Depends on what stage it is at with the consulate. Consulates request blocks of visa numbers a few weeks in advance of the interviews. So if they get a block of numbers in September and assign one to your case and then you are interviewed in October, you would still get through even if there is retrogression in October.

But if the visa number hasn't been assigned, and retrogression kicks in, it's back to the old waiting game until your PD becomes current again.
