Entry in UK with GC and NP no visa

Hi,

Quick question for you all. I have abt 12 hours stay in London, i am wondering will they let me go out of the airport even if i dont have visa? I dont want to go through the headache of getting visa but as i have 12 hours stay i d love to go out and sight seeign a bit if i can do that.

Anyone has any expereince please let me know.

Transit w/o Visa

If your connecting flight is within 12 hours ( actually I am not sure, it could be within 24 hours, but more than 6 hours, which is even better for you) I think the airline that will fly over the longer route, usually arranges a transit stay. I am not sure if both the sectors have to be on the same ticket or not. You can check it from your Trvl agt. and I think the Agent can arrange it from here. You will have to contact the staff once you get in the arrival/transit lounge.
 
When I waited in London 12 hours between flights I just approached the officer, showed him the tickets and he stamped 24 hours transit visa to my passport. But it was before the 2005 terror attacks. Now London ariports are a nightmare in terms of security.

airport entry w/o transit does this mean i can leave the airport during that time or i d have to stay in the airport. I am thinking it ll be alot easier to pass the time sight seeing if i am able to do that w/o any problem.

Please share your expereince.

I just came back from UK last Fri. You will have to go thru immigration anywyas and they were pretty strict. I think they will ask for a valid visa despite your GC.

I madeup my mind i wont go sight seeing, i ll stay in the airport or where ever i can stay w/o the visa. I dont have that much desire to see london :)

memo: will i need visa for trasit lounge too? i dont think so

Check the British's immigration office (whatever their official name). Their site tells you that you do not need a visa if you have a green card and do not leave the airport. Be sure that you have a copy of the print-out when you travel. Have a good time.

The problem is he wants to leave the airport! It is very hard to spend 12 hours in airport.
