Guys,

I will be facing interview in next couple of days and I have to travel immediatel due to emergency.

My DO doe not give oath at the same time.

How should I handle this? If I miss the oath, can I do 'walk in' and do the oath.

Thanks,

There is no walk-in oath.

So you will complete your interview this week and you travel thereafter. Ask a family member or friend to watch for oath letter. When the oath letter comes, either plan to come back and take the oath (as long as you do not break your residence parameters), or ask for a re-schedule. Since the DO does not offer same day, they probably do a weekly or monthly oath ... they will re-schedule you in a few weeks.

You can tell your officer the nature of your problem and he may accomodate and give you a oath date later in Jan or feb. But you still need to watch your mailbox.

Thanks wantmygcnow,

what if I am not here when the letter is in the mail box and I am still out of the country when oath date pass by.

can I go with the letter (after the oath date) to the USCIS local offcie and explain the situation or it will be treated as abdondoned case?

Well you do know when you will be back right? A month from now? 2 month from now? You would tell your officer that you want an Oath date based on when you think you will return.

As for missing your Oath date, its kinda complicated. You can't just go and take the oath like that. I would suggest you have someone watch your mailbox and let you know so you can come back.

I do know my return date.

How can I tell the officer? by infopass appointment since the interview is over.

Thanks

but the interview is over...

Did you have your interview yet?
Just remember, you'll still need to meet continuous residency requirement up until oath, so make sure your open ended emergency travel isn't so long as to bring continuous residency into question.
Also, have your mail checked by someone while you are gone in case your oath letter arrives, since you don't want to miss it while you're gone.

Sorry for the confusion. Interview is done.

I will be going for 10 days as an emergency.

While I am gone and the oath letter is received and the oath date is before I arrive.

What are my options?

If you are going for just 10 days, you will surely get a longer notice period for your oath. In other words, if you receive an oath invite after you are gone, the oath ceremony will be scheduled for after your arrival date.

While I am gone and the oath letter is received and the oath date is before I arrive.

Your option is to return oath letter requesting for oath to be rescheduled.

If there is no one to check your mail and look for the oath letter, then I suggest (if possible), to get your mail forwarded to an address where someone can check for your OL. They can then let you know the oath date and if you are not back, then can send the OL back requesting for reschedule.
In case there is no one to check your mail or to forward it to someone, and you miss your Oath date, then I think you can make an infopath after you come back, and try to reschedule at that time. I will be very surprised if they would consider your case as abdondoned. You are going to be a US citizen, a person who can vote, and these goverment officials need your vote so they will be nice to you and will accomodate you.

Guju, all official govt mail is not forwarded even if you have a forward request in the Usps system. They send it back to the uscis.

So, I think the only other option is to have somebody open the mail box and send it to USCIS fro re scheduling if the oath is before the arrival date.

In case of missing the oath date without rescheduling migh create some coplications down the road.

Correct?

Yes, I have seen it happen in action based on my DMV transactions. All other mails get forwarded, but DMV finds me with the right address (not with the forward slip). Same for social security annual letters ... they always reach you presumably based on change of addresses you file with the post office.
