I am sorry, who is liaison ? is that person belongs to your institution or UCIS ?? do they contact the lawyer by themself or lawyer has to contact them? Could you please enlight me about this aspect!

Dear Rajan,
The liaison is the local contact for all immigration lawyers of a city (like Boston) that has been designated to interact with the INS (Vermont office for instance). If you ask your lawyer to start a "case status referral", such request will go through the liaison (link in French or intermediary contact).
Such person has informed my lawyer that my case is at "the Point of Contact (officer-adjudicator?) for that case type (I-140-OR)". He also added that we shall inquire again if we do not hear from the INS in a month's time.

Thanks for clearing things up! I was under the impression that either lawyer or immigration officer (in my case) directly contact the UCIS and start the inquiry.
A month (in few days it will be 30 days)back my immigration officer had started case status referral for me. What do you think I should do if I don't hear anything from UCIS in 30 days?? Any suggestion from your experience!

If u check some of theprevious postings, u will find details of OR applications from ksekhar, lamhe and also a list of potential rfes.
for my case, i had about 12-14 letters from academia, govt., and industry. i am an asst. professor in pharmacy with grants, peer reviewed publications, and national as well as international presentations (posters/podium)
hope this helps.. but is it a case to case basis. however, both lamhe and sekhar had similar stuff.

Interesting topic. As usual, best thing is to find a good lawyer for advice. But here is my info:
- Applied as a post doc from a University
- I had 14+ journal papers when I applied
- Showed evidence of being referee for a couple international journals
- Some other crap (meetings, stuff)
- Only 7 or 8 letters, some of them very strong, some not. BUT: (my lawyer says) it is important to show a variety of sources. You need to show that you are relevant to your research field. I made a list of potential letters before asking for them, and tried to cover several countries and institutions.
The idea is simple: to convince the officer that you are doing ok and you are relevant in your research field.

I-140 EB12 (OR) case approved June 9th,2004!
I wonna share with you this happy news: My case has been approved on June 9, 2004!
No RFEs. My boss inquired On april 4th and May 7th. At the same time, LIAISON office through my lawyer tried to track my case but was told that it was already an inquiry on it by another person (my boss) and thus cannot answer the liaison's inquiry. I was advised by my lawyer to drop all inquiries and let liaison do its work. I did. That was 2 or 3 days ago. And today I got the great news. I found out through an email from INS after I opened an account with them. I opened the account last april.
I hope that this will lessen some of your worries especially for those that have been waiting like I did or longer.

There is nothing yet about my I-485 yet. My ND for I-485 is Nov. 19th, 2002. My FP was done on Feb. 12th,2003. My I-485 dossier was last updated on Feb. 17th, 2003 after reception of my FP results (?).
I am happy and relieved. I wonna thank the people that have put together this website and this thread. It has been my therapy since Nov. 2002.
I Will stick around of course and would welcome any questions.

Thank you Mendieta for doing the update on the list. In my case both the email and the automated system say the same thing. I checked the automated system yesterday around noon and there was no change. After i received the email about the approval, I checked the automated system just to make sure. The update was entered yesterday.
Now if you are refering to my I-485 case, then I sure hope that they would decide on it right away since both files circulate in tandem. I think Ksekar waited 2 months before he got approval of his I-485.
Anyhow, I sure hope that the relief i feel today will soon be experienced by those that have been waiting.

you two must be greatly relieved as you two have RD far earlier than the published date. I have a RD 08/12 still no information. mzgh, do you think your case inquirey triggered your case processing? How did you ask your boss to make the inquiry, just send a letter(fax) to INS? Thank you very much.
