I'm not yet in the US. I saw DV result on May 4, and my F1 visa got approved on May 6. So I'll be travelling to the US in early August. Are you presently in the US or currently outside the US?

I cannot discuss DV related issues with you if you’re not yet in the US. Feel free to ask your questions again after you’ve been admitted into the US on your NIV.I'm not yet in the US. I saw DV result on May 4, and my F1 visa got approved on May 6. So I'll be travelling to the US in early August.
Check the timeline spreadsheets for your FO. Linked in first postHello, I am selectee of DV2026 SA22XX. I want to know if anyone has information of how long it takes to make de AOS since I am currently in an F1 and I am wondering if it is better for me to do an AOS or CP, since i dont know which will take longer.
The lawyer doesn't know what she's talking about.I have another doubt I just spoke with a lawyer and she told me that I cannot do the Consular Process in my city of birth if I am in the US with an F1. Also she told me that is not neccesary to fill the DS260 before september 2025, is this info accurate? I am confused.
So, are both things she told me wrong? Can I reside in the US, fill out my DS-260, and travel exclusively for the interview? Also, I need to fill the DS260 before September 2025 or before September 2026?The lawyer doesn't know what she's talking about.
1. Yes.So, are both things she told me wrong? Can I reside in the US, fill out my DS-260, and travel exclusively for the interview? Also, I need to fill the DS260 before September 2025 or before September 2026?
This is a DIY forum, majority of the folks here have gone through or are going through the process on their own. Here's a couple of highly recommended resources you should look into:If anyone has a good lawyer to recommend, I would be grateful. I have been receiving very confusing information from different sources.
There's no such requirement. However, the sooner the DS260 gets submitted, the sooner the KCC can complete processing it and get it in queue for interview scheduling against when the CN becomes current.Thank you very much. Yes, from what I have seen, my number should be current in April. But I thought that it was mandatory to submit it before September 2025.
You'll need to contact the KCC in that case and inform them you wish to change to CP, to enable them process your DS260 form and schedule you for a CP interview accordingly. Take a look at the FAQ tab of the AOS Process spreadsheet for more info regarding making a switch.Hello, I am presently in the US on H1B and my CN is 2026EU209XX. I plan to do AOS:
What happens if I submit my DS260 with the intention of AOS but for whatever reason I do not maintain my status in the US and have to do the process using CP?
1. Yes changing from CP to AOS may be possible if your KCC file hasn’t been sent out to the embassy responsible for your interview by the time you send in the change request.Hello! Since we don’t know much yet about when numbers will be current, and if the will follow the trend of 2024.. I was wonder if it is possible to fill the DS260 for CP And in case that my number become current early in the year change to and AOS later on. Would you recommend that or it has risks? Also I hold an f1 that expires in mid-may. But then I have my OPT, and if I don’t find a job I have 90 days to stay, till mid August ( the time you can be unemployed with OPT). Filling my DS260 now, will prevent me for been granted de OPT? Also that time of OPT will maintain my status to fill AOS?
That’s not something I’ve observed. Most people decide from the beginning whether they’re better off processing AOS or CP after reviewing the pros and cons of both options.Hello, I am a DV selectee from Europe. From what I noticed, I see many people with high CN number choose CP if they are uncertain of their number becoming current, and when things move faster they change to AOS. Is that correct ?
Thank you very much for your time and responses.1. Yes changing from CP to AOS may be possible if your KCC file hasn’t been sent out to the embassy responsible for your interview by the time you send in the change request.
2. DS260 form submission has not be known to impact OPT approval.
3. OPT is a valid status to AOS from.
p.s. number your questions when you have more than one per post.
