USCIS Now Requires Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record to be Submitted with Form I-485 for Certain Applicants
Release Date
12/02/2024
We now require certain applicants filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to submit Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, with their Form I-485 or the Form I-485 may otherwise be rejected.

Applicants for adjustment of status generally must complete an immigration medical examination and all required vaccinations and submit a properly completed Form I-693 signed by a civil surgeon to show they are free from health conditions that would render them inadmissible under the health-related grounds.

If you are required to submit Form I-693, or a partial Form I-693 (such as the Vaccination Record), you must submit it with your Form I-485. Otherwise, we may reject your Form I-485. We have revised the Form I-485 instructions to make filing the two forms together a requirement.

We have made this change to reduce the number of Requests for Evidence we issue before adjudicating a Form I-485.

Is there any information on the forum or the sheets that discuss when to approach these: service request, contact tier 2, infopass, congressional inquiry ? I have read on some applicants shared experiences that they used these services to move their cases when they seemed to be stuck. Thank you

Hello! Everyone,
I filed my package back in July which was rejected due to early filing. (I was naive and had no clue.) Now my visa is being current in January and I would like to resend my application. But the problem is my medical file envelope was open during the rejection and had a barcode stamped on it at the end of every page. Due to this, my doctor says he cannot reprint the package in a closed envelope. And to to do recheck up i will have to travel 7 hours again. I have read on Reddit that some people just submit the open medical file and it was okay. However, I wanted to ask here for advice as I came to trust this forum and the information it provides. Your advice or similar experience is very appreciated. Thank you.

It's been several months since your package was rejected, so my recommendation would be to file everything anew - new forms, sealed medical report. If you were re-filing immediately following the rejection, refiling the rejected package with the already opened medical report would have been okay IMO, but that is not currently the case. The I-485 which you submitted back in July is probably no longer current as a matter of fact, so all the more reason for submitting new forms.

Curious why you are asking as barely more than 2 months into the fiscal year would hardly seem to be “stuck” for AOS.

I don’t feel stuck or anything but just wanted to be aware of the available options specially as they aren’t discussed in the AOS process sheet. So i was wondering if there is any part that explains at what stage is one or another option appropriate to use since i read about them in previous experiences of approved applicant but was looking for a source to confirm the appropriate use. Thank you

Hi Mom, Susie,

I was a DV2024 winner but my application was denied due to the longer Name check. Having said that, when I want to go back and renew my US F1 visa, there is this question "Has anyone filed an immigrant petition on your behalf with USCIS?". I am not sure if in my case I should answer yes or no, given I am too stressed about potential rejection due to immigration attempts. From your rich experience, has anyone had problems in the past with this by answering Yes? Or is the answer "No" given my attempt was last year?

I would greatly appreciate your answer and expertise on this.

Is it just me who thinks they are moving slow this year? Exactly 30 days and no interview notice has been received. I don't see any updates to the 2025 timeline from other applicants too :/

There’s nothing definitive like what you’re looking for, it is not x number of days then do y. You need to analyze circumstances at the time etc.

What is typical for your FO in past timelines? Its not at all unusual to wait longer than that, especially if you are at a FO that tends to batch DV.

No one has filed an immigrant petition on your behalf. A petition is an I130 or I140. DV is a little different to those cases. Regardless what you answer, i promise you your consulate will know of your DV application.

Hello, is it okay to apply for EAD online? When is the appropriate time?
You include the I-765 with your AOS package.

I am current in Jan, Can I send my document to the lockbox? One more thing, can I send it to any FO?
You can’t send your AOS package to any FO, you send it to the Lockbox with jurisdiction over your State of residence.

You need to send some quality time going over the AOS process spreadsheet in order to enhance your understanding of the process. Your questions indicate you haven’t done so despite being asked to do this in the past.

Thank you so much for your response. Can I file with the same open medical form with the new i485? Sorry for being stuck on the open medical package again again. I just want to be super sure before I plan another 7-hour trip. Also, Thank you for running this amazing forum. This really helped me a lot.

Curious why you would expect mom to change her answer from the one you quoted …

Hi! I was wondering since the medical test does not expire and it was opened by them with a barcode to prove I did not tamper with it. If it was okay to send the open medical package with the new i485? I wasn't expecting Mom to change her answer. I was just double-confirming as getting a new medical report is kind of hard for me and I want to exhaust every option before that. Thank you.

Mom is the expert on aos, I’m going to go with whatever she said… which is to get a new one. It’s up to you whether you think the aggravation of getting one now is a bigger concern than getting your package rejected.

I already provided you with information regarding what I would do in your situation, as that is what would give me the peace of mind of not getting my package rejected again, or receiving a RFE for a new medical report if the package is initially accepted.

Your call as to what you eventually decide on: the convenience of not paying for a new medical exam while sitting on pins and needles following package submission, or the peace of mind that comes with getting a new medical report considering this is an opportunity of a life time.
