DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hi Mom
AOS Interview 22nd aug, you advised i contact the embassy to see if theyll interview my derivatives
This was the response, please advice

Good day,

Unfortunately, we do not have your case at Post Nairobi. Once you have your green card status, you may proceed file I-130 petitions for your spouse and Child.

Kind Regards,

Hello all. Firstly, thanks to Sm1smom and all members who've dedicated their time to answering questions, this forum and all spreadsheets and FAQ's has been an invaluable resource in navigating the processes.

I have two questions here regarding my case. My info thus far is all in spreadsheet, but nonetheless:
-CN current in September
-Manhattan FO (Question 1: Am I assuming correctly that while I took biometrics at Brooklyn ASC, that there is no Brooklyn FO, and it is Manhattan? I actually can't see this on NOA or Bio)
-Lockbox (Elgin) accepted package on 07/21/2025
-NOA (with Bio notice same day) on 08/01/2025
-Completed Bio on 08/13/2025
-On 08/18/2025, today, I saw case update to show the issue of RFE.
-I obviously and understandably have not received interview notice as of yet.
Question 2: I understand I am now set to wait until RFE arrives by mail. Given the timeline, I am feeling stress that it is unlikely to submit the response to RFE, get it hopefully processed successfully and then receive and complete an interview with hopes of approval by September 30 deadline. Am I right to be worried? Should I wait some weeks after submission, and then if it's really down to wire - submit a congressional?
Forgive me if I've missed a reply here with similar circumstances as these.

Much appreciated.
1. Add your zip code to the Field Office Locator box to determine your FO:

2. Get the RFE first, followed by the submission the required information, before stressing over if there's a need to be worried or not. No point stressing over what you have no control over at this point, MHO!

Well, I also asked you to bring the issue to the attention of your IO when you attend your interview on 8/22. You haven't bothered to provide an update on the outcome of the interview, nor have you bothered to add your case detail to the Timeline spreadsheet as requested by the way

Bring this to the attention of your IO when you go in for your interview. In the interim, you can reach out to the embassy with jurisdiction over the FTJ process to find out if they will be able to interview your derivatives on or before EOB on Sept. 30th. Ask them what they’ll need from you to make this happen.

p.s. do add your case details to the 2025 Timeline spreadsheet to provide us with better insight into your case.

my interview is not yet current, also i have trouble updating the spreadsheet

So I called today and got the bio info and used the online system to reschedule to tomorrow at 8 AM. Problem is that I didn't actually get the notice yet and it still says notice pending in my USCIS account, instead of giving me a notice to download.

If the notice hasn't appeared by tomorrow, should I still attempt to go to the biometrics appointment? What would I bring with me if so since I don't have any bio appointment letter yet.

It's roughly end of business today for most stuff, so I'm wondering if it's even possible for the updated notice to appear anymore today?

Edit: Nevermind, the notices came in! Phew!

Hello everyone, me and my wife had our interview at Seattle FO today.
We were scheduled at 11-30, arrived at around 11-15 and waited till ~noon, then we were called by the IO, we were interviewed together, had all our papers organized in a folder, we were asked our passports and ids (driver license), went over I-485 forms in turn, standard questions like -Your name, DOB, parents, address, yes/no questions. We weren't asked to provide any original documents, officer asked if we have any documents to prove that we're living together, we handed over our lease and medical insurances, we were also asked if we have tax papers, we provided 2024 W2 and 1099 forms (married filing jointly), everything went smooth, at the end IO told us we should expect our green cards in mail coming after welcome letters, she added "if your case is approvable", but that was a clear sign everything went fine.
Now I checked our case statuses after couple of hours and it's "New Card Is Being Produced", so I assume we're safe.

I want to say thank you to everyone here and especially @Sm1smom, this resource is great and it was pinned in my browser tab for last 14 months. I'll update the spreadsheet when physical cards will arrive.

I wish good luck to everyone waiting for their adjudication!

Oh ma bad re interview date!

Okay, not sure how you phrased your email to the embassy. Did you clearly explain you are processing AOS and would like for them to request your AOS file from your FO after your interview (which is scheduled for 8/22) to enable them schedule your derivatives for FTJ? They obviously wouldn't have your file for your derivatives before then. Anyway since the embassy in question is Nairobi, the sad news is I'm not even sure they will bother to schedule them - if I'm not mistaken, seems like they've not quite been active with DV cases this year - @Xarthisius or Simon can confirm this.

Anyways, still let us know how your interview goes. You need to send an access request from the spreadsheet.

The beneficiary must go to the embassy at which he or she wishes to process the case and request for the follow-to join process to be initiated. Once requested, the embassy will obtain the necessary documentation from the applicant. The proper procedures will be implemented to ensure that the case is processed accordingly.

The response from KCC is more or less what I already told you. You contact the embassy to see if they will be willing to schedule your derivatives for a FTJ interview. If the embassy is willing to do so, they will work with you and your FO to obtain your USCIS case file following which they will schedule your derivative(s) for the FTJ interview.

p.s. I noticed you've added your case to the Timeline spreadsheet - you're however still missing some pertinent dates that will be used in the future, e.g. you Lockbox package delivery date. You can guestimate the rest of the dates if you can no longer remember the exact dates.

NRB decided to wake up from its slumber and scheduled over 600 cases for September. Will they squeeze in one FTJ? I have no idea.

Oh my gosh! Do you recall/or have you got data from pre Covid what the typical number of interviews a month was?
In the past it was ~50-150. However, they never had that many people waiting in the queue. This year they've been only working for 2 months. Despite 1000 interview scheduled in total, there's another 1000 that will miss out...

Hi Mom,

I attended the interview for AOS, but I haven't received any updates since then. It currently shows that my application is pending the background check.

I'm quite worried about the timeline. Do you know of any past cases where the background check was not cleared until September 30?

It is 3 weeks now after the interview.

Unfortunately, your IO cannot approve your application for as long as your background check clearance is still pending. You really can’t do anything on your own to hasten up the process, except to remain hopeful and keep your fingers crossed. While USCIS has been known to try their best at pushing DV based cases through towards the end of each FY, we’ve had reports of a few cases in the past that did not clear the background check as the end of their applicable FY.

Is there a way of knowing if your background check has cleared before the interview? Does it show anything in the USCIS website? We did our bios today. Just wondering if there's anything else we might see now or if it's basically just waiting for an interview. The USCIS website just shows that we took our bios today. Will we even know if the FO has the case yet?

1. No.
2. You may see an update that indicates you’ve completed the bio appointment. Nothing about having cleared the background check.
3. The FO should already have the case file from the NBC following the bio appointment being scheduled - that is the standard process. Some applicants are gung-ho about confirming if the FO already has their case file or not. It is an irrelevant information IMO as the FO could have the FO for several months without scheduling an interview or adjudicating the case. That knowledge makes no difference IMO.

Hi,
My husband (principal applicant) and I, both F1 PhD students, sent our package on August 8, 2025 (our case was current in August 2025, AS10xxx). We received the NOA text (received by my husband) on August 13, 2025, and received the mail yesterday. I tried to use "Chat with Emma" to check on our biometrics appointment and was connected to a live agent. It said that I should call to get the specific information. Then I gave a call to the USCIS contact centre and said my receipt number. Then he said there's no such receipt number with my name. Then I said my husband's receipt number, but he verified my information (my name, phone, address, etc). Then he said our biometrics is not scheduled yet. I've seen some more comments like this; maybe we can share our experience too. Also, my husband is based in Orlando, Florida, and I live in Rochester, New York due to our PhDs. We filed from Florida.

1. Is this normal? Am I too early to be concerned?
2. Should I ask my husband to contact them, in case they misunderstood?
3. Does calling them multiple times affect our case negatively?
4. Since we are in 2 different addresses, is there a chance we get assigned 2 different ASCs? Or is it always dependent on the Principal applicant's location?

Also, I requested permission to edit the timeline sheet. Kindly accept it.

Thanks for the support!!

Hi @Sm1smom,

First, I’d like to sincerely thank you for the amazing work you are doing. Also, a big thank you to @Britsimon—because of your channel, I was able to find @Sm1smom.

Here’s my quick update: Today, our USCIS account status changed to “Card Production Ordered.” My husband was the DV Lottery winner (AF48…), and our field office was Wichita, KS. We completed our fingerprints on July 29, 2025, and it seems our interview was waived since the case moved directly from “Fingerprints Updated” to “Card Production Ordered.”

For context, my husband was on F1 status before changing to H1B, while my son and I moved from F2 to H4.

We are truly grateful for this platform—it has been such a helpful guide through the entire process, which, thankfully, has been smooth for us. Special thanks again to @Sm1smom for patiently answering all my questions.

To everyone still in the waiting period, I wish you the very best. I know it’s not easy, but may everything work out well for you too.
