you shouldn’t have a problem actually entering but you may get a talking-to from CBP about residency requirements, and make sure not to stay out over 6 months again. Just be sure you are entering comfortably before the year is up - don’t try time it for like one day before when something like a flight issue can put you over the 1-year time deemed for abandonment.Thank you for your reply!
I thought I had up to one year after activating my green card to move to the U.S. and settle there “permanently.” In my case, I only traveled to the U.S. to activate my green card a bit less than a year ago (mid-June 2024).
Your response makes me a bit worried now, because my plan has been to move there at the beginning of June — so I won’t have any particular documents to justify my time abroad.
I simply took some time to prepare for the move, assuming I had a full year after activation.
If youre planning on naturalizing, your five-year clock will be reset to start at your next entry date.
by the way, did you file a tax return for 2024 with the IRS?
