DV 2014 Results being released in batches this time round.

I know I know, I was talking about, hmm maybe 15-20 selectees, I know it is not enough for serious conclusion...Maybe it is just coincidence...but is somebody asked me what is the difference in terms of CN between dv2013 and dv2014 on Your forum I would say immediately : CN are much higher this year and can't see any low CN.

A lot of threads/questions on our native forum: "my CN is 4xxxx what am I supposed to do"

May I ask which region do you belong to? EU or AS?

How many SA'S are selected so far

Is there anybody who knows maybe how many South Africans are selected so far? Please guys fill me in with those numbers. I went to SAUSA forum it does'nt give me anything.

I would expect to have 2800-2900. But I was mistaken with Asia - I thought they would have 22000 at most, and they have at least 26000

This year they selected 125,000 for further processing whereas last year it was about 105,000, and DV2012 was 100,000.

1. Does anyone have any idea why the BIG jump in numbers? Obviously it's unusual.
2. Do you think they will work faster in order to accommodate as many people as possible before September 30? What I mean is, will the monthly cut-offs have big jumps month-to-month. Otherwise it makes no sense why they'd increase the number of selectees if they don't plan on doing so?

By the way, my CN is 2014AF00031XXX and I'm from Ethiopia. Obviously I want to figure out if I'm in with a good chance of getting an interview this DV year. In DV2013, I would have fallen in the May cut-off, but since the total selectees are much higher, I'm wondering if I'll land somewhere in March or April. I'm concerned they'll work slow and I won't get an interview, but at the same time, they may work much faster than normal and I won't have enough time to gather all documents (particularly I'm worried about police reports since apparently their validity is only 3 months so I have to calculate when my interview is before applying for them - it seems like shooting in the dark).

There's no given pattern in the jump in numbers and what we presume on the forum is hypothetical. It could also be that people haven't applied for the DV Lottery as per previous years. From what I recall DV2013 had the lowest number of applicants (approximately 8m) and also don't forget not everyone who is selected will go through because some people will not follow through the forms or will be rejected or will not have the sufficient financial or educational requirements etc. There are a number of factors so to speak...

In your case I would not worry at all because you'll be current sometime between March-April 2014 so relax and take it as it comes and make sure your documentation is ready well in advance (school documents, marriage certificate if applicable, divorce certificate if applicable etc), save for the police report and medical which should be done immediately after you receive your 2nd NL due to the validity requirement.

Feel free to ask any other questions as us already selected are here to guide you :)

By the way I've been to Addis Ababa a few times (have a close friend and business associate there) and I enjoy it a lot particularly Castellis, Yod Abbysinia (gotta love my injera and doro wot, tibs and kitfo!) and the club at ITT Sheraton. Last time I stayed at the new Radisson and loved it and of course restaurants

They opened all hidden winners this year

It might be a lottle faster (20% faster) because they added some additional checks they did not have before. That is the reason why they have 125,000 entries not, not 105,000.
Other than that, everybody else will be out.

momo so far how many winners from South Africa?

Hey Speedie, DV2012 had about 830 winners from South Africa. SA has a pretty decent quota of GC allocations from what I know.

On the East Africa side Kenya and Uganda have lots of applicants but Tanzanians don't bother applying (despite various US Embassy press conferences on the DV Lottery or announcements encouraging Tanzanians to apply). Tanzania has the lowest immigration rate to the US from what I know.

I presume you're applying from South Africa?

But what difference would it make if less people applied? I mean, if 5 million applied instead of 10 million, they can still select 100,000?

Oh that makes me feel better. I got the impression that my CN was quite high for Ethiopia so I was getting really stressed.

One question about the police report since you're so helpful :). I have lived in 3 countries after age 16 for over 6 months. For Ethiopia, I know that the process takes 24 hrs to obtain the certificate and we need the 2NL to get it, so that's far in the future. In the US, the FBI clearance takes 8-10 weeks (not sure if I need individual state clearances too? ), plus the 3rd country is an African country and I have no clue how long the process takes. I keep reading the validity of police certificates is 3 months, and I'm concerned the FBI and African country one will not be ready in time since I have to guess when my interview is before submitting applications. Would it be ok to get them done earlier and have them be older than 3 months?

Thank you so much for your help. I'm glad to read you enjoy injera - lots of that here in the US! :)

Where are you from, if I may ask? I notice you're waiting for your appointment - best of luck for you to get it soon!!

Would you mind elaborating on what those checks are? Thanks.

I do not understand why they selected so many people..so to make more people disappointed? or to create more paperwork and headache for themselves?
My number is pretty high for EU, but this year also many high numbers I found in Russian forum compared to previous years..
I also asked my friend lawyer-consultant who did a lot of these paperwork, and she told she never saw such high numbers before..

Mostly exact duplicates. Most of the holes are from those. Also, detection of whether photo is real human, whether names are human, e t.vc

I do not know either. The only thing that comes to mind is legal rationale - being afraid of another lawsuit. It ia hard to believe a winner could not know that he iis a winner.

No high numbers were available since internet was widely used. It could be before that thoguh, and I have a suspicion it was the case in the first years of DV lottery

Tew I don't mean to burst your bubble but I just remembered that Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya have quota limits so you'd be going according to the quota on the visa bulletin.

Yes Ethiopia has lower case numbers than Africa as a whole. Assuming DV2013's pattern holds, I should get my interview in May. I'm staying positive, as long as I've got a 1NL, there is hope. :) Besides, the other 2 Ethiopian numbers I've seen so far for DV2014 put me right in the middle. I've seen a 41XXX and another close to 20XXX, don't remember exactly. Of course it's not an exact science or anything, but judging from this forum, case numbers seem to be high across all regions so far.
