Does anyone know where I can find the INS document about asylee can work unconditiona

Try another SS office. My uncle's family came to US under derivative status and their I-94's showed same one year expiration but they got their SS cards in New york.

8 CFR 208.21(g) provides that "The spouse or child qualifying under section 208(c) of the Act shall be granted asylum for an indefinite period unless the principal's status is revoked."

I think the INS clerk who responded to the SSA made a mistake. You may certainly try your luck at a different SSA office, but the result could be the same. If I were you, I would immediately complain to the central INS office in Washington DC--the asylum unit.

Good luck.

Today, after reading this thread, I immediately went to my local Social Security office to get a new SS card (I got asylum in 1999 and already have a card with "allowed to work with INS authorization" stamp).
I didn't have any problems when I applied for a new card. I showed them a printout from the link at the beginning of this thread. They asked me for an ID (driving license) and a proof af asylum being granted (I have a decision of immigration judge). They gave me a receipt saying that my new card shoud arrive within 2 weeks.

I can't believe INS never informed me about this new law when I dutifully applied and received my annual EAD renewal and paid $200 in 2001 and 2002, after the law went into effect.

Thank you, people, for letting me know.

Congratulations. Only a couple of clarifications:

first, this is not a new law. It is a new procedure being followed by SSA, based on a document I first posted in this forum like two years ago.
second, it is not INS work to inform about this. That document was released by AILA to its members and lawyers were supposed to inform their clients about this new procedure. So, don't blame INS this time.

I still think it's flawed. There are some asylee's out that filed on their own without the help of an expensive lawyer, who still might not know about the new policy on EAD. There are also those who might now speak english very well who are left out.

My lawyer whom I paid very well with my hard earned money might I add never told me either.

I have never petitioned for another EAD since 1994 when i got the first EAD card.I have never had any problems getting jobs any where. The documents i have been presenting are the I-94 card showing employment authorisation, also a letter that shows proof of asylum granted and a social security card. However i have a friend who wanted to renew his EAD he was advised by INS not to do so.I worked for AA airlines as a ticket agent i did not have the EAD card but i got the job.I do not think you should be panicky.

Check the links posted in the first page of this thread. The bottom line is that to be eligible to work in the US, you must have one document of list A or one document of list B and one document of list C of I-9 Employment Eligibility Form.
EAD is not the only option we as asylees have to show we are eligible for employment.
Drivers License (list B) and unrestricted social security card (list C) are enough. Also, employers can not ask for specific documents, check INS form I-9.
