You need to elaborate more. Are you doing CP or AOS?

You need either $ 18,000.- in a bank account and proof you had the amount for a longer time (where it came from) and additional $ 4700.- for each additional applicants or you need to have a US sponsor (could be a private person or an employer) who wants to sign to guarantee that you won't apply for Social security due to no income after arriving over here. The US doesn't want a green card holder to become a liability for a handout from the government. The US sponsor is liable in case you will apply for soc. security and will have to pay every dime back or get sued by the government.

The minimum requirement of High School diploma doesn't guarantee a high income later on so the want some one to proof the can at least have some money to over come a certain time frame to find a job, which specially right now is already difficult for Americans in this economy.

18000 seems like a lot...i heard 14000 was enough and that it was up to the officer's discretion anyway

This all depends on US Consulate in your Country where you intend to have DV Interview.

If you don't have US Dollars in US Bank the forget it. Most likely they will not consider self sponsor who has foreign money in foreign bank. Best bet is contact your local US Consulate, they always prefer Affidavit of Support or Employee Offer Letter.

Don't tell ppl that bullshit. If you could think logically you had realized that most DV winners don't have any bank accounts in the U.S. nor have they ever been here.

It doesn't matter where the funds are.

You are quoting me out of context. ;) Maybe I was too harsh. All depends on the US Consulate where you have your DV Interview. If you are a self sponsor with foreign funds in foreign bank other than US, then US Consulate will temporarily reject you until you provide either Employee Offer Letter or Affidavit Support. Again it all depends on your local US Consulate where the interview is held.

U both correct on certain issues. I agree that it depends on which Country u in. A good example is my country Zimbabwe. You could have billions of US dollars in yr account but by law u can not move money out. U can only recieve. On the other hand very few people would have US bank accounts. Its a lottery at the end of the day. Its not in their best interest to make it an impossible task. Depending on the laws of your Country you will know how to go about it. To be on the safe side ask the embassy in your country for the info.

So if you have bank account in Zimbabwe you can't take or wire money to an US bank account if you move there. We have transferred a large amount from Europe to the USA and the money has to be shown where it came from so the governement is sure it isn't illegal money...if you can't wire money and can't take much money than I guess you will need a I-134 in order that the governement knows you will not apply for soc. sec. benefits.

Yes for my country thats what u need. But thats due to the economic turbulence we are going through. We now using USD currency. Thats besides the point. You should be fine from what u explained. All the best.

US Consulate in Montreal, Quebec, Canada doesn't accept self-sponsor based on Canadian Funds in Canadian Banks. People are told to either get I-134 or Employee Offer Letter or showing US Funds in US Banks.

If Canadian funds are not accepted, I am pretty sure Asia/Africa would not be considered either.

So if you have money in your own account in your home country and it is enough according to the 125% poverty chart...it is still not accepted for a GC...is that what you are saying?

I am telling you this is what happens when you go to Montreal US Consulate. Your consulate maybe different.

As far as France is concerned it seems Ok to have money on a french bank account, at least 125% above poverty level. An affidavit is not required, but of course it's always better.

All part of why this forum is interesting. U can never know it all... This is why they say each individuals case is different. We live in a very diverse world. Hence Dv lottery.
