December Mumbai Interview Thread

He/she should reach before 11:00am....

I don\'t think it takes too long...

Your friend would have to go to the Public Information Window of the US Consulate on any working day before 11:00 am with your name and case number and ask for the following:

1) Interview Appointment Letter (you could ask him/her to check all names)
2) Packet 4 (make sure he/she collects multiple sets as required).

Good Luck and see you on the 27th....

packet 3 received on 11 th Oct

Similar case with me .....the operator told me that the pkt 3 was received on 11 th Oct but no interview schceduled yet ........is anyone else in the same boat ???

Packet 3 was entered on Oct 18

My packet 3 was also received on 18th Oct but I did not get any date in December. Did you call the Consulate by any chance ?

No Title

I called up consulate around 15th and they told me that they have not scheduled december for me .....maybe January is more likely he told me.....What did they tell you

Do I need P4 before leaving US?

Hi
I am going to India a week before my interview which is on 18dec. I still don\'t have the interview letter. Can I pick it up in mumbai once I land? Do I need interview letter during travel? I know that I will need it for medicals.

You do not need it during travel.

You do not need the interview letter during travel... You can pick up the letter from the consulate before the medical.

Good Luck.

AAAK_2001 why multiple sets

of P4 need to be collected. My family member picked up only one copy of P4. Please advice and elaborate.

Thanks,
Desi

In case of spouse and/or children.

The Packet 4 contains only one set of forms.... In case your spouse and/or children would be going with you, you would need additional sets of the forms...

In my case, my wife and son would be going with me, so I asked for 3 sets of the Packet 4...

Good Luck.

As per www.immihelp.com

After consulate opens your file, your interview is scheduled(at present about 45-60 days). At that time they send you Packet 4, if the priority date is current. It consists of

Interview Appointment Letter

DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Part II Sworn Statement
This is the application for Immigrant Visa.
Print this 2 sided on short sided.

Instructions on medical exam.

IRS 9003 Additional questions for the applicant for permanent residence. This is an IRS form and not INS. Each applicant including dependents should fill this form. You have to write your SSN (or ITIN) and four questions regarding income tax. No signature is required on this form. Print on yellow color paper, as original form is in yellow color. Print it single sided.
Packet IV together with supporting documents listed on OF-169 form are to be brought to the interview. DS-230 part II is signed before a consular officer at the time of interview.

May be for persons who filled up OF-230 instead of DS-230

My attorney sent me OF-230 Part 1 forms instead of the DS-230 Part 1. And I filled these up and sent back...

I later used the fillable DS-230 Part 1 & Part 2 forms from the web and filled these up. Hope the consulate accepts these...

Any idea whether the consulate makes a fuss if the form is printed on 2 pages and not back-to-back on one page?

Thanks & Good Luck.

A few Questions.....

1) How important is the Sailing Permit? It is a pain to fill out the 1040C form. I was wondering if the consulate has ever asked for these? I have the last 3 years tax transcripts from the IRS... and want to avoid filling the 1040C for sailing permit, if possible...

2) Fillable forms - Any idea whether the Mumbai consulate readily accepts fillable forms or do they have to be hand-filled?
DS230 Part 1 - Fillable form used, printed on 2 pages.
DS230 Part 2 - Fillable form used, printed on 2 pages.
I-134 - Fillable forms used. Notorized in US. printed on 2 pages.
Any idea whether this would create problems, or is it better to hand fill them again.

3) Visa Fees payable in USD / travelers checks? Any idea whether the consulate accepts fees in USD cash or travelers checks? If yes, it would save the exchange rate problems with the demand drafts...

Thanks in advance...

my educated guesses

1>Nobody seems to have ever been asked for this. it makes no logical sense. If anything, they would ask for this when you depart (SAILING permit) not when you want to come back in. i have no idea who started this rumor.

I heard one guy say that they asked for his degree but nobody has reported being asked for anything except the docs officially listed
(passport, birth cert, police cert if applicable etc.).

2) Fillable forms - people have indicated that fillable forms are OK. i printed them on both sides of a page. My guess is that worst case - they make you fill it in again there - if you are paranoid take a hand filled one too.

3) Visa Fees - carry USD cash just in case. get the draft from the bank across from the embassy when convenient - maybe a few days before inteview when u get photos taken. i am doing my medical at breach candy so i\'ll get all this stuff done the same day.

The rates do not fluctuate daily. they just fix it to some figure in the delta neighborhood of the rates and do not move it unless it goes up or down radically. My plan is to get drafts - i am taking some extra cash with me anyways.

boy scout motto is "always be prepared" :)

Duplicate Packet 4 Collection Procedure Questions

I haven\'t yet received Packet 4 and so requesting one of my friends at Mumbai to collect Packet 4 (including appt letter) from the public information window of the Consulate office.

Would someone tell me what all the documents does my friend need to produce to collect my Packet 4?

Do I need to write a letter authorizing my friend to collect Packet 4? If yes what exactly should I mention on this letter?

My friend neither has passport nor has any identification card. Will that be okay with the person at the information window to hand over
my packet 4?

Please see answers (in my opinion) below....

==> Your Case Number and Name.

Do I need to write a letter authorizing my friend to collect Packet 4? If yes what exactly should I mention on this letter?

==> Not necessary.

My friend neither has passport nor has any identification card. Will that be okay with the person at the information window to hand over
my packet 4?

==> Not sure about this one. It is always better that your friend carries some form of id, just in case they ask for it.

Good Luck.
