Concurrent Filing - Using Cross Chargeability

still..check or read up on interim EAD's There were around previously, no sure
if its still issued...

No updates on my RFE yet...tensed and waiting...
I am surprised by the dates moving to March07..

Yes, I see the new date for 485. Thats good news, however the 140 date is still stuck in 06 which does not help anyone. I wish it were more consistent

Ks,

I called the customer service to request them to place an enquiry on my case; The rep indicated that the "processing dates" just changed and my case ND (Mar 01, 2007) is very near to the processing date (Mar 03, 2007); She indicated that I have to wait for one more month before requesting for enquiry. Is the 'wait for 1 month' before starting an enquiry valid? Please advise if calling up again and talking to another rep would help.

Also, pl. let me know if taking an infopass and going to the local immigration office is a good idea?.

Thanks in advance!

No special pointers, but select option 3 for "outside processing times". They'll ask some basic questions about the case and in the end give you a referral number...so keep a writing instrument handy....

stay calm....

you can only open a service request if your ND is 30 days or more behind the processing dates. So, you may open an SR only when Proc Dates jump to Apr 3, 2007.

Hey Well,
Yes, the 30 day blackout after initiation of one service request is valid. That period of time is designated as the amount taken by the customer service folks to send the request to the service center and for an officer at the center to respond to your service request.
You'd most likely get the "within processing time" mail or you might get a "security check pending" letter from the center, if your name check is still open.
Taking an Infopass appointment can't hurt whatsoever, especially if you're looking for name check information. Note that Infopass appointments at the ASC, do nothing for your case as far as having them send notice to the service centers or help it along is concerned.

Stuck in Background Check

Took an Infopass appointment today and the Officer told me that my case is stuck in background check and it may take from several months to several years for clearing. I dont think i can do anything other than waiting :-(

Does anyone know how long it takes to clear the background check? Also is the background check quite common for people who apply using CC?

Regards,
Kris

gokris,
Read back on this thread as to the various things ks_cc did while his background check was in process. Sucks to see that the officers mention that it may 'take years' to get out of it. Hang in there.
Whats happ with proc dates? Seems like NSC has its 140 proc time to Dec 06 and 485 proc time to March 07. Wonder how long this will last before everything retrogesses to a year or so

I called up customer service today and put in a service request. The CR lady was pretty nice and opened the service request even though I had not requested for it initially.

She however did not give me a 'confirmation number' but instead gave me her rep number which she said could be used to track the request.

How soon or how late should I be expecting a reply to this. Would this letter include information about whether the name check has been cleared or is still in process? The cust rep mentioned that she was just a rep and did not have access to the name check information.

I had taken an infopass about 2 months back but that did not help since the immigration officer did not divulge the namecheck information at that time. (Perhaps because my app was not under the processing date and still within the 180 day timeframe?)

Any idea as to how I can find out the name check status

Kris,

Every applicant for citizenship or green card, regardless of nationality or country of chargeability goes through the FBI Name Check process. Over the past few years, the name check process has been the most time consuming aspect of the AOS process for several individuals. The FBI's National Name Check program is what these checks are performed under and it is handled by the Records and Management Division of the FBI.
The process itself can take anywhere between a few days to a few years unfortunately and there is little you can do to expedite this, short of filing a lawsuit in Federal court against the USCIS and most likely going to trial. Now, a lot of folks, self included, have found relief by writing letters, a lot of letters, to congresspersons, senators, and even the First Ladys office. FBI does not provide applicants a timeframe nor is there any tracking for your case available from their side.
I think its slightly early for you to despair. Its the luck of the draw and undoubtedly the FBI deals with a massive volume of cases. Name checks are initiated by CIS shortly after you file the AOS. The FBI processes and returns a majority of those in under six months. Some just take longer. My wifes checks returned in about 3 weeks, while I took 14 months.
You can try sending letters to your elected officials voicing your concern. Many times, just having a congressional letter may lift the dust off your file. Post if you've got more questions, and really, please don't be too worried about this...you're still in the name check processing time green zone.

Thanks for the detailed explanation ks_cc. Your reply has definitely given me some comfort. Appreciate your help.

It would be of a great help if you can point to me the thread that can provide more info on process for contacting the senator in my area and First Lady for taking a stab at the Name Check expedition process...

Kris

Kris,
NP. Been there done that and got the t-shirt (which reads "I spent 14 months in name check and all I got was this lousy ass t-shirt").
Anywho....
I am not sure what state you reside in, but every state has two senators. Use the link below to find your US Senator. I'd suggest contacting the Senator who has a local office closest to where you live.
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Also, use the following link to find the Congressperson for your state's congressional district. Punch in your zip code and you can find your district's congressperson. Send the congressperson a letter as well.
http://www.house.gov/writerep/

Lastly, the First Lady's office can be written to at the White House address below:
The Honorable First Lady, Laura Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20500

Just search around the forums for templates (using keyword template) and you will find a ton of templates. Modify and use the one that best suits your need. Goes without saying, but try and exercise restraint in bemoaning the process and give due respect to the folks who you're writing to. Not that it would make a difference, but congressional and senatorial offices might reciprocate better to a plea for help rather than a demand for earning what we pay taxes for. Just my 0.02. Sorry if this sounds like I am pontificating...I really don't mean to adopt the holier-than-thou approach. Someone had asked me for a template letter, which I provided to him. He wrote a nastygram to his senator and when they closed their doors to his grievances, I was surprised...until he sent me a copy of the letter he sent. Heck, given the tone of his letter, I am surprised that the senator's offices did not tell him to go bleep himself instead of sugarcoating their response to him as they did.

Dbins,
Have your attorney of record contact the National Customer Service center immediately. Then, at the end of the week, call the Service Center and reconfirm the rescheduled appointment. Not a big deal to reschedule, since people use AP to leave the country, but just make sure that you really dot the i's and cross the t's.

Expect the AP to be approved today or tomorrow.

485 Processing dates typo?

I suspect the 485 thingie is a typo.. come Monday they will correct it to show that it has actually gone backwards - to March 06!!

Prezcalvin was right

It seems the 485 now processing times were a typo!! They seem to have updated it again and pushed it back to September 11, 2006 (TSC) !!

I did manage to open a service request yesterday given the fact that I was 80+ days under their processing times, hopefully that service request still holds!

Hi Guys,

Just checked the USCIS website...The I-485 dates have gone back from MArch 3rd, 2007 to Sep 26, 2006:( . Atleast I-765 dates have moved forward.
