Child tax credit with ITIN

Hello all,

I am on TN status and my son and wife has got ITIN. Can I apply for a child tax credit/additional child tax credit for my son?

Thanks in advance

I believe you can...my wife had an ITIN from 2004-2008 (she just got her SSN yesterday) and she was considered a "dependent" since her income in US was zero

The only sucky thing is we did not get the bush dollars when the stimulus checks were issued out...apparently I will get the $$ with my 2008 tax return :p

Apparently not - I said earlier that one would be able to do so, but on reading the statute it appears that any dependents MUST have a Social Security Number.

I would be willing to bet that by tax time, the SSN requirement will be gone.

The child tax credit used to also require that the child have SSN and that has disappeared over the years as well.
