Are there any restrictions on visiting certain countries as a tourist if you have a green card - more importantly will it cause issues when you are applying for citizenship

example: syria, iran, venezuela

Only Cuba, US residents needs prior permission from DOJ to spend money in Cuba.

There are other countries that can cause trouble for you with US immigration (at the port of entry or during naturalization) if you visit them, even if there is no explicit ban ... Pakistan, North Korea, Iran, Yemen, Syria.

True, but citizenship cannot be denied just on the fact that a GC holder visited these countries.

What if an applicant is originally from one of the listed countries and not a refugee or asylee?

Except for proof that you went to Cuba, I don't think travel to any countries would be a problem as long as that the applicant really was not in those countries for clandestine purposes.
