Canadian Passport

Has anyone renewed their Canadian passport lately, and how long does it take. I have sent my application overnight about 2 weeks ago, and I choose to pay with credit card, but they haven't taken the money yet, so just wondering how long it takes for the processing.

Also, if your spouse is denied a TD visa (because the interviewer wanted proof of old letters showing that we were dating), and did not even look at the marriage certificate nor any documents sent. My wife is non Canadian from Ghana, and I believe it is unfair. Now my question is even though the final decision is made by the officer, but can I petition for review or something. Any suggestion or anyone faced any condition like this.
I am planning to go with her on her next interview but need to gather some information as to what else we can do differently. The interviewer did not give her any thing, not even requesting for other information - just word of mouth.

Hi

I have a quick question and I would appreciate your reply.

1. in affidavit of support (I-864A)....for Income information I have over Poverty level for last year(2006) but not previous 2 years(when I was single)...so will it creates a problem in my case.

Even at the best of times a Cdn Pasport from US takes a month, I would triple that time right now.

As to your wife's treatment, this was completely rude, racist, and outside of the law. Too bad she could not complain. If it happens again, ask for a supervisor, especially if you go with her.

Speaking of rude, please don't hijack thread with you own irrelevant question. Start your own!

Nelson, if the consular officer determines that the marriage is not bona fide, that is not "outside the law" because it is a question of fact, not a question of law. Consulars officers do have absolute discretion to adjudicate questions of fact, and there is no appeal.

I would still try to ask for a supervisor's opinion, but it is a good idea to understand one's legal position (or lack thereof) before doing so.

Cdn passport takes two months roughly. I sent in the package in mid January and new passports arrived in mid March.

The guy said that the officer did not even look at the marriage certificate - therefore he clearly did not determine whether the marriage was bona fide or not. (may be he just assumed it which is not fair)!! If this is true, I think it is unfair.

Amen.

But, TD is such a desirable status, that there is surely an undergroung network of illegal TD marriage-brokers.

Good work, Agent Lardass. 3 extra crullers for you this morning!

Well like I said, she (the officer) did not request for even the marriage certificate. I belief there are people who provide fraudulent information but as an officer can you prove the legitimacy of a marriage by asking questions like "I dont thing you have had a long relationship so I can't grand you a visa". First she asked; give me letters showing that you were dating (in this day of cell phone who writes letters),but I had sent her a christmas card and she presented that, and the officer said I need old ones, then she asked; do you have children, and my wife said no, then she said I can't grant you a visa because you haven't establish a long relationship.
I believe a marriage does not have to be 100 years to be classified a marriage; So the fact that the officer did not look at the certificate, wedding pictures and any of my ducoments means she had already made up her mind before she even called her.
