Hello,
quick question. I'm married to a US Citizen employed by the Military.
Can my husband sponsor my parents to become Permanent Residents, just like he sponsored me in order to come to the US?

What about dual citizenship.
If I have the dual citizenship can I sponsore my parents then?
I don't really want to give up my citizenship completely.

if your country allows two citizenships, then you can have two citizenships. If you are a US citizen, you can sponsor your parents.

Thanks LucyMO,
was a great help....I guess I'll have to make that step with the dual citizenship then.

I think there is a difference between having dual citizenship status and simply having two citizenships.

Don't quiet understand which difference you mean.
If I do the step with the dual citizenship I'll end up with my original citizenship (which in my case is German) and the american citizenship.
Just like my children have both at this point. Just that they have them from birth on and I'll apply to keep my German one, and when they give me the ok then I can apply for the American one.
More info from anyone?

I don't understand either.

The United States doesn't recognize dual citizenship. What that means is that the US government considers you a US citizen, or an alien. Whether some other country also considers you a citizen doesn't enter into the picture from the government's standpoint.

Once you become a US citizen, you can sponsor your parents. What other steps you need to take to preserve citizenship of another country is up to you, but won't affect the sponsorship unless it delays your naturalization.

TheRealCanadian,
thanks for your input. That was my understanding of the whole situation too.

Now to another question. I heard in another forum that it will matter how much money I made in previouse years, in order for me to sponsore my parents.
Well, I've lived in the US for the past 7 years, but I've only been a stay at home mom and housewife.
I've never worked in the US so far.
What would happen if I never work? At this point in time my husband is in the Military and in that lifestyle with children (encluding a diabetic child which needs a lot of attention to begin with) I won't get the chance to work in a long time.
Would my husbands salery count too, since he is the provider of my family right now?
Or will my parents financial security play a role too? I'm pretty sure that they would immigrate with a good amount of money, plus both of their retirement checks.
