I am an asylee and I want to go to law school. Would my status be a problem? Can I get financial aid?

Why is Virginia law school so expensive for in state people?

OMG, this kind of questions make us asylees feel like aliens. Can we go to law school? Of course, we can do anything we want, we're just normal people.
Thankful,
I am also applying to Grad school to do a Masters in Teaching. Do you know what the rules are for Asylees with regards to instate tuition? I applied and was told I need to live in the state for 1 year before I can get instate cost. By any stretch do you think that if you lived in the state out of status before getting asylum if that time can count towards your state residency?
In 2003 when I started my graduate studies I got financial aid from http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
I was an asylee at that time.

Thanks a lot to all that responded. I am also in NY. I have another question though. Does TAP in NY count residency from the time you get a legal status? I applied and they said I don't have enough time in NY but I was a bit scared to mention that I was here before because I don't know if it will come back to bite me in any way later. What do you all think?
Hi,
I'd just like to know how you got your financial aid via FAFSA;
the point is I've been qualified as a dependent and my parents had filed a foreign tax return instead of 1040 so .... I'm like confused because i've already received letter frm HESAA of NJ stated im ineligible for financial aid for the state of NJ because my parent are not legal residents....(im pretty sure because i stated foreign tax returned, so....)
thanks
They live in US with me, they're Asylees too, But we came together in 2008 so, at that time they were supposed to filed an Income tax return from the country. so when filling my Fafsa 2009-2010 i put ''foreign tax income return'' because it's what they filed or will file.....????
Or else what we've to do.
thanks.
