Birth Certificate is in French

My Birth Certificate is in French, from Quebec Canada. Do I have to translate it to English? If so, where can get the translation done?

Have they asked for the birth certificate specifically? This is not an item that is usually requested at interview. Usually USCIS already has this document from prior filings (Green Card process or other type of visas). If you absolutely need to take the certificate to the interview it might be good to have it translated. You might try the yellow pages for a translator or call an immigrant support organization and I am sure they will be able to point you to a decent translation service.
 
If you are proficient in French/English, you can translate the birth certificate yourself along with a statement that you are fluent in both languages.
 
No they have not asked for it specifically. But... just in case. I was just worried if they did asked for it.

Whether for immigration purpose or not, a civil document such as birth certificate should always be in English to be accepted everywhere for all kind of purposes. If I were you, I'll contact the Registar office in Quebec in Canada to get a birth certicate in English as well, or at least a translated copy in English. Or will translate it into English by a competent and certified translator. You never know when you might need such an important civil document in the future.

You can have yout birth cetificate translated here in the US, my mom had my sister's done at an office that do immigration related papers (no law office) and she had it signed by a notary at the same office. So Im assuming this is something normaly done here. No need to call anyone at the Registar's office in your country.
 
joopdog, I had to translate my French Canadian birth certificate. Attached is my template. Make sure you read it over. Our IO read through it and was ok with it.

I believe that in Quebec, they will not issue you an English birth certificate or translated copy if your first language on record was French.
 
I agree w/ Bobsmyth.
I translated my birth certificate myself, when I applied for GC.
I included the statement that I am fluent in both languages and competent to do the translation. 8 years later here I am, getting ready for my citizenship oath; hence, I didn't have trouble at all w/ my own translation.

The following instructions are form USCIS website:

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

I do not know french. Aor not enough french to translate. I'll have to get someone. Who can I go to translate?

Do you know anyone who is fluent in French/Englsih? No need to spend extra money of translation services if you know someone who can do it for free.
 
joopdog, see my previous post. I posted my template. I did it myself as French Canadian is my first language. The IO was fine with it. Don't go pay, or at least fill out the one I posted in my previous answer and bring it to a fluent French English person to make sure that it's ok
