Hi,

i just got my residence card on february of this year (february 23, 2010)
it's a conditional residence and i have to renew it at the end of 2011
i also have a low income and i'm just wondering if i qualify for some of the benefits that us citizen has but i'm worried that if i apply for this benefits i can get deny my application to renew my green card in 2011 because cis can think that i'm gonna be a burden for the us government because as far as i know this is why they make people get an sponsor

my questions are:

Can i apply for financial aid to go to college?
Can i apply for low income scholarship?
Can i apply for medicare or medicaid?
Can i apply for the food tickets?

Thanks

You need to review the USCIS website for information about the programs in which you may participate based on US status. I don't have time to look for the link right now.

Having a conditional green card is not a barrier to the first two, except for a few grants and scholarships that require citizenship.

As a new immigrant you are definitely NOT eligible for medicare or medicaid yet (I'm assuming you're under 65 and have not accumulated 10 years of Social Security credits).

Not sure about the food stamps, but I think you'll have to wait until you become a citizen or have been a permanent resident for 5 years in order to qualify.

the thing is that i was told that i shouldn't apply for any of this benefits and i already have financial aid for college so now i'm worried that i can get deny my application to renew my green card in 2011 because cis can think that i'm gonna be a burden for the us government and i was also told that is my sponsor the one that has to pay for this kind of benefits in case that i couldn't

Financial Aid for college is certainly not going to make you a public charge. Medicaid, food stamps, welfare - probably.
