Background Check Timeline???

FP check status fbi ph: 304-625-2000
Dept of state . ph: 202-663-1225

They however dont tell if the FP was reported as CLEAR or HIT. They just tell you when it was processed.

a quick question

What does exactly "HIT" means. I sent my finger prints to FBI 3 times during the process of my canadian immigration and everytime they came out clear. The reports that FBI sent me three different times all of them had "NO ARREST RECORD FOUND" at the back, even though in my college days i accidently sold a beer to a minor and got a ticket for that, I was even finger printed because that. It happend 10 years ago (1995). I am scared jus because of that incident. I am in canada waiting for my background clearance . I applied for H1 B visa and this is my 5th week going on.
Appreciate in advance for any kinda information.

fbhatti,

were u charged with a misdemeanor? were the charges dropped? i guess even if u get a "HIT" and as long as it is not a CIMT(crime in moral turpitude) you seem fine.

search through the forums, there are some people in a similar position...

misdemeanor

Yes it was a misdemeanor, I was put on a probation for 6 months and after that charges were deffered( not sure what that means). I was never arrested for this incident but again they took my finger prints. But thanks for your comments...

re:

fbhatti,

Make sure you speak to a lawyer, so that when you go back for a re-interview you know what to say.

just my two cents,

best of luck!

background f'in check!!!!

anismo,

I called up the DOS number 202-663-1225 and they told me my application is still pending. I called up twice, thinking a different person might be more helpful, but they did not give info on when my file was received. I followed the options for speaking to a visa specialist. Did you also speak to a visa specialist ? If not, which options did you follow ? .....its been 11 weeks for me today.

where did u apply for a visa

Ali,
When did you apply for the Visa.? Where are you currently. Is it H1B or some other visa.

does FP goes to both FBI and DOS

Does the finger print check goes to both FBI and DOS..?? If yes where does it go first. ??

Ali,

My wife called the DOS number and the person who answered it (not sure it she was the visa specialist) told that my file was received on feb 7th, even last weekend, they said it was pending.. so I guess we are in similar situation..! Did they take your FP and kept your Passport?

fbhatti, I'm in Karachi and applied for my H1-B revalidation from Islamanad. My interview was on Dec 6.

anis, They did not take my finger prints. I was given the option of keeping the passport and I did, as I had to travel. I sent the passport back to them after about a week. Should have kept it, would not have been stuck....

I called up FBI name check and was told that my name and info check was completed and submitted on 12/22/04. Not clear if they recieved it or completed it. The person was not very forthright, so I didn't push it. Its my 12th week now...

Ali,
The problem here is that we dont know what kind of checks we are stuck with! I am guessing I must be in either CONDOR or NCIC false hit.. as they took my FP (with 85$ fee!!) and I believe this requires FPs to be cleared by FBI and then clearances from Dept of state..
Did you call 304-625-2000 for the Name check? I called that for finger print check and the operator told me that the case was processed and returned on jan 14th.. But they will not tell the result of it though.. that is standard procedure..I guess from there it goes to Visa Office and then DOS Name check center..( 202-663-1225 ).. now they need to complete their clearance and then from there will be returned to consulate ( as the person in DOS said that it was the final clearance step ).. Did you contact the DOS number and check on the status?

Now this procedure is rife with mis-information ( as some are stuck because of investigation over the company.. and others with MANTIS checks) I am just piecing together the sequence from various internet posts and such...

I do hope that they give us more info.. thats the least they can do...

I would think that your namecheck must have been cleared (assuming that you do not have any kind of police record ) on dec 22.. so my guess is that your case should be at the DOS and hopefully will get your visa very soon..

Take care
Anis

Anis,

Whats CONDOR and NCIC?

I actually had my HR guy call up Rene Morton , of FBI Name Check. I will call 304-625-2000 today. I called that same number for DOS and have spoken to visa specialists twice. Both the time they said my application is pending and they can't tell when it was received. I don't have any police records, apart from speeding tickets, but like you said who knows whatever their criteria is.

I also have the office of our district's congressman checking with Islamabd embassy. They pretty much get the same response as me. I hope thats not pissing them off.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Ali

I hope we all get through

I hope we all get through, I am stuck in Toronto for the last 7 weeks now. I wish i could have come to Pakistan for H1 stamping, atleast you have your family beside you. FBI and DOS were closed today because of President's Day Holiday. I sit all day on my ASSS in my hotel room, plus its -35C outside....

Hi Guys,
Thank you all for the inputs provided.
My friend got a visa yesterday.
She got a mail asking to come any monday and she went this monday just to see that the consulate was closed because of President's day and my friend wasn't aware.
She went to the consulate on tuesday and when she was asked by the security outside, she said she had already called and had an appointment. When she went inside , she had to argue with the officials regarding the monday being a holiday and she was aked to come any monday and she wasn't told about the holidays.
It took a long time for her to convince the people to get her file opened up. But after long awaited arguments and difficulty, the consulate officials could reopen the case for her though these are only handled on mondays.
When she was at the interview booth, she could see that because of the administrative processing, the consulate got a big bunch of papers regarding her stay in u.s. They had all the papers, including department of labor, her tickets, even bell south accounts. Now we can understand how security # works.
Regardless of all these, the consular took a look at the credentials and said she had a wonderful academic record and asked her to get the visa fees paid.
This was a long saga, but atlast she came out successful.
It took her almost 7 weeks to get this whole thing done.
I sincerely suggest all of you not to lose hope, all this processing works and security clearances are just a matter of time. Hopefully everyone will come out with flying colors.
All the best. If i don't reply to any of your questions in the forum, please mail me at jags_kum@yahoo.com
Thanks.

7 weeks is pretty good, I'm on my 12th week here....do I see a pattern here folks...7 weeks.....10 weeks...3 months....6 months....1 year. Just curious..most of the pople who get it fall in one of these. Maybe depending on the kind of processing required the completion falls under one of these slots...ok been working since yesterday and haven't slept, maybe my mind is going overtime...

Security Check In Vancouver

I am from India. I went to Vancouver consulate for my H1-B1 stamping and they marked me for the security check because someone with a similar name has a police record. Could anyone please let me know how long it takes. As per US Consulate, it normally takes two weeks and they are going to call me after they are done with it.

Please share you experience if you had one.

Thank you very much!!!
