Applying for passport: citizenship through parent

That doesn't answer the question, but I presume you mean they also didn't voluntarily show the GCs.

They'll be notified sometime in the next few weeks about submitting the GCs.

So we had to send in the GC with the application?

Will it help to go to the post office on Monday and try to submit the GC, or should we wait for them to contact us?

We chose expedite service, so hopefully the process will be quick as we will be travelling abroad in the first week of August.

I don't think the post office can do anything at this stage to connect their GC with the applications.

Either wait for them to contact you, or contact the National Passport Information Center and ask what to do. http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/npic_898.html
But first wait a week after the applications were submitted, otherwise the applications might not be in the system yet.

It could be that sending photocopies of their GC would have been sufficient, depending on what the State Department requires now. However, some proof of their LPR status definitely needed to be enclosed with their applications.
The clerk at the post office certainly screwed up here, but your parents should have been more pro-active as well and should have directly asked the clerk about the GC when submitting the passport applications for your siblings.

As Jackolantern notes, it is doubtful that the clerk at the post office can do anything for you now. You need to deal directly with the State Department at this point. As Jackolantern says, once their case status shows up in the online passport application case status system, contact them at 1-877-487-2778 and ask them what to do. I'd also ask them specifically if actual GC will need to be mailed in or if sending photocopies is sufficient.

Additionally, it is a very good idea for your siblings to file N-600 applications with USCIS now to get certificates of citizenship. They don't have to wait to get your dad's naturalization certificate back from the State Department, since when submitting an N-600, photocopies of the naturalization certificate and of their green cards are sufficient.

Frankly, I don't trust that the OP has all the facts straight.

Is everyone really so bored that they are willing to respond to this inane worrying over nothing?

I contacted the NPIC today about the application and they told us to call back in a couple of days as they have not got our application into the system yet.

Will update once I know more.
