airport experience

I just wanted to ask if there are other besides me that made bad experiences at the airport. When I came back from vacation last year the guy at the airport said; if i am just married to live in this country and the last time I came back the guy said very ironic comments like; so youve already been here 2 years?
Any of you had those experiences too, or is it just me?
I should say that I arrive in Minneapolis and I have one more person that had similar eperiences, thats why I think it might be just that airport.

well, you should probably tell us which visa and status you have... IF it's a tourist visa, then the guy was right.

How was that guy right?
I am a permanent resident, and I have never done anything illegal.
But why would you treat anybody like that, how could that be ever right?

dont worry, some people will just be defensive because its their country.
If u haven't done anyhing wrong and if ur marriage is real , u should not feel bad;-)

With "right" I ment that I dont think its right to say that to somebody. And I am not worried about it I just wanted to see if somebody else had that experience.

i have travelled enough through different airports in europe and USA to say that its just coincidence.

i had one girl joke about me making "bombs" , another asked questions repeatedly to test my answer etc... .

you will have bad experiences BUT the important thing is how you react to it. interestingly a part of the immigration officer job is to test you out, whether you are a fake or have different intentions then stated on your visa(a HUGE number do that). one of the easiest way to get in hot water is to "argue" with the officer about their statements. we usually take these statements and demenour very personal as if they we are made of glass and a few ignorant words will hurt us in some way. may be it is the upbringing in our own homeland ( if ur a foreigner) where "izzat" and "gherat" are SOOO important.

"how dare he accuse me of abusing the system. i am a nice person "

if the statements are obviously racist " you are a worthless piece of ..." you can take it up with the supervisour ( if you have three hours to spare ie) but in the end keep your cool smile and you will usually walk away with your diginity and visa intact.

It definitely wasn't right/appropriate , but there is nothing we can do. Give an "once" of power to the wrong people and they abuse it.

Forget about it. The beauty of it is that you were legal and there was nothing he could do about it. That probably pissed him off.

What you said about testing people is very true. We just have to keep our cool.

Although asking you if you "made B..." (too afraid to even mention the word here) is realy wrong.

I have read many cases where people joking about the subject at TSA officials got into serious trouble, so they shouldn't be allowed to do that.

But then again, what are we gonna do? They are doing their job.

You mind telling us how you got your green card? Remember that officer had access to your entire immigration history, so if we know what he saw, we might be able to decipher his comments.

Thanks you guys that really did help to hear that. It just sometimes hurts to hear that, I mean i have been married for 1 1/2 years and we have been together for 4. I did everything the legal way so I just wondered why they would say that. My husband said I should just ignore it, but I felt like maybe they mistake me with somebody or something is wrong with my conditional green card, cause I just couldnt figure out why they say that to me. And it seems like nobody here had the same experience.
Thank you

Yes, I did come here over a visitor visa, but we took a lawyer and he said its legal. We were actually planning on getting married in germany but my husband had a surgery so i came here to be there for him and since then we live here. So maybe they think I tried to come here to get married but still im a full time student he served his country, you know were just "normal" people like all of you.

Now don't take this the wrong way. I am not defending the POE officer. Just look at the facts here:-

(1) You were engaged to your husband before you last entered the US
(2) Your last entry into the US before filing an I-485 was on a visit visa
(3) Although there is nothing illegal in filing an I-485 on B-2 status, USCIS still does not like this practice

Are you still surprised that a hard-nosed officer questioned/commented as you described?

No I appreciate every thread, dont worry. And I totally understand the facts, but thats almost two years ago, its over now. Why would they say that now.
I guess I just shouldnt be so sad about that, it just hurts me when people talk to me like that, and I would never talk to somebody like that. Thats why I thought maybe there are other people with that experience.

Your entire immigration history, including the fact that you filed for AOS while on a visit visa. The key word is might, might be questioned.

I am not worried about that though, I think as long as you tell the truth you are just fine.
I just dont want to be bothered anymore, I mean if there is anything wrong I USCIS would let me know and not airport immigration.

What has this got to do with one's right to be treated fairly and with some dignity at an airport.

The AOS has been decided, the OP has been granted Permanent Residency not Permanent Residency subject to verbal abuse or comments that seem idiotic every time he/she travels outside the country.

AsPapi,
As I made it clear, I was not defending the POE officer. With regards to the N-400 interview, every applicant's entire immigration history can be questioned/considered with regards to adjudicating the N-400.
