Acceptable tax transcript

It took only 4 days! I was told they only could provide the last 4 returns.
I am still confused on how I can get my 2003 transcript. May I use my personal copy? Can I order 2003 return through the automated system?

Hmm you should be able to obtain your 2003 tax transcipt by automated system.
Try talking to a customer service (same number just opt for live person).

In the mean while you can request a copy of the federal tax that you filed for year 2003 through the automated sytem. You may have to pay for it (35$ or so).

Tax transcripts from the IRS are only available for the current year (2007) and prior 3 years (06, 05, and 04) so you won't be able to obrain your 2003 transcript from the IRS.

I'm in the same boat and when I requested a transcript for 2003, the IRS sent me one page with one line stating that 2003 transcripts are not available.

However you may order an Account Transcript for 2003 which only shows the basic information without any numbers but not sure if that would be acceptable for the interview!

Can someone please shed some light on this? is Account Transcript accepted? If not, how can someone obtain 2003 tax transcript?

I looked online but it seems that most of those private companies cannot provide transcripts beyond 2004.

I just called the toll free # and ended up getting connected to a rep. I asked her for transcripts for the last 5 years and she submitted a request for 2002-2007. Once I receive the transcripts in the e-mail I will post information on what I actually got.

You are most likely to get the same thing I got for 2002 and 2003, Transcript is unavailable. But please let us know if that's not the case.

Are IRS Transcripts for the last 5 years required :

(a) only If you have taken any trips outside the United States that lasted six months or more since becoming a Permanent Resident?

(b) OR, are the transcripts only required to be filed with the N-400?

(c) are transcripts required for the Interview regardless of (a)?

I recd. transcripts from 2003-2007 (current year + last 3 years). In any event, there was no mention of taxes in my recently concluded interview (appl. based on 5 yr. GC)

I need some help. When I call the IRS phone number given here (1 800 829 1040), I'm not getting an option to order transcripts. Can someone please let me know how to get them through the automated phone system? Thanks.

When you call select the following option 2-2-SSN-1-1-3-.... That should get you to the menu to request transcripts.

It wont let me request a transcript for 2004 over the phone. Any other way to get it? I might need that since that will be my 5th year going backwards.

I just called the IRS and requested last 5 yrs tax transcript. They gave me an option of computer generated-which is free- or photo copy. I asked the lady on the line, she said it was the same for official matters.

They are mailing the last four years to me. However for the fifth one -2004 returns, she asked me to mail in a form 4506 with $57 for each return. Since I only need one more it is ok. But just wondering is there a difference between photocopy and computer generated? Can I take the computer generated ones or do I need to take photo copy(at 57 bucks a return, that is quite a bit). I haven't gotten my check cleared yet with USCIS:)-but just getting evrything in order. Thanks..

You don't need a copy of the tax return a transcript will do just fine. If you order by phone you can just request the transcript for the past 5 or 7 years. Because it is on the IRS letterhead, it is considered official. No point in paying $57 for a copy.....

Are you saying over the phone and with a representative?
because I tried with IVR menu and it wont let me order for 2004. Please reply?

I called in the past to order 2005, 06 & 07 using IVR. IVR said I can't order 03 & 04. Then I called y'day to order 2003 and 2004. He said they don't have computer generated line by line transcript for those years but they can give me the income, tax and refund details on their letter head and saying that they don't have the line by line details also in the letter. He said that will be sufficient to show the USCIS.

Send them a fax requesting transcripts for '03 and '04. They will send them to you.

Mr. Vertigo, Thank you. Are you talking about faxing the form 4506T?

Yes. For the dates, put "12/31/2003" and "12/31/2004." I had ordered transcripts like that for myself, and they arrived in the same fashion as the ones from the automated phone service.

Mr. Vertigo. Thanks again. I just faxed the form exactly as you mentioned. I will update the outcome. Thank you again for the quick response.
