An urgent question to all the DV winners who got their visas

The expiry date of your medical is one year from the date you took it. As discussed above, my medical was valid for one year, but by the time I got my visa only three months were left. So, my immigration visa was valid for 3 months instead of the usual 6 months.

Haven't received the welcome notice or green card

Whole family admitted on Oct 11, 2007. Received welcome letters on Dec 3, 2007. Received green cards on Dec 7, 2007. Took almost 2 months. You've only been here for 13 days, so relax! We didn't change the address, since we've been living at that address in the US for nearly 5 years now.

Lpr Status If Returning After 3 Years

I'm not an expert on this and you should definitely consult a good lawyer, but you could actually be in a very fortunate position and be able to apply for US citizenship right now, assuming your husband is a US Citizen and he was transferred by a US corporation pursuant to 319(b). Someone in a...

    DV2008--AOS only

You could try and make an infopass appointment with USCIS. However, in my experience, the USCIS employees behind the counter themselves often do not know the difference between a background check based on fingerprints and the "national name check program" (NNCP). If your case is outside...

    DV2008--AOS only

Keep in mind that this number is for the FBI CJIS Division in Clarksburg, VA. They only deal with the fingerprints and have nothing to do with the name check. The latter is done by the FBI in Washington, DC and they will only talk to the USCIS or DOS.

Haven't received the welcome notice or green card

We received our welcome notices today. They were sent out on 11/26/2007. I retrieved the current status from the USCIS Case Status Online website by entering the receipt numbers on the welcome notices: Hopefully, the cards will arrive soon.

Can you still get the Lottery Visa if your banned?

Well, as the name "10 year ban" suggests, he can potentially get a gc after the 10 year ban has been satisfied. So, in his case, he would need to wait 8 more years before applying.

Haven't received the welcome notice or green card

I also haven't received my welcome notice or green card. I was admitted on 10/11/2007. I have called USCIS several times and the last person I spoke to yesterday said that she could see my alien registration number in the system but as of yet card production had not been ordered. She said that...

Hijab in DV2009 Photo, covering ears ok?

Ears can remain covered. Just make sure the face is visible and the hijab is worn tightly over the head so it doesn't cast a shadow over the forehead. No need to worry at all. Contrary to what one might think, and unlike some European and even Muslim countries, the US is very hijab-friendly...

    Illegal in an european country

His immigration status doesn't necessarily affect his ability to get a police certificate. Provided he has no criminal record, it should not be a problem for US immigration purposes. He should check the procedures for the specific country concerned. For some EU countries, the US embassy will...

    Annotation

Hmm, that doesn't fit my case. I am the principal applicant and I have two stars, my wife has one and my son has two also. Also, the IV Categories DV1, DV2 and DV3 respectively indicate the principal applicant, the spouse and the child of the principal applicant.

cutt-offs are out for january..any predictions for coming months?

True, but those who are not interested probably wouldn't have bothered applying in the first place. I think the Department of State is simply being aggressive in order to create demand for visas to ensure all 50,000 visas are actually used, and they will probably throttle the supply of visas...

An urgent question to all the DV winners who got their visas

The maximum validity of the immigrant visa is six months, though it could be shorter, depending on when your medical expires (the medical is valid for one year). Mine was only valid for three months because of the expiry date of my medical.

An urgent question to all the DV winners who got their visas

That's pretty much it. If your case required additional administrative processing, like mine did, they'll probably put an annotation on the immigrant visa itself stating "clearance received on mm/dd/yyyy". I guess that's to alert the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) officer that you've...

Country of birth or country of citizenship?

Hmm, I'm not sure if it is quite as straightforward. The section of the DV2009 instructions you are referring to above is a summary of the applicable law. The law says: § 42.12 Rules of chargeability. (a) Applicability. An immigrant shall be charged to the numerical limitation for the...

You don't need to send the x-rays, just keep them with you. Also, not everyone needs an x-ray. Note that the envelope you received from the doctor is supposed to remain sealed.

Panamanian with a question about DV Lottery 2008.

I don't think you get a notification unless you are already in the US and request AOS. I didn't receive a notification from KCC, I just received the second letter two months or so before the interview. However, you can always call KCC and ask what your status is.

    FBI check question

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The consular officer will decide if your case requires further "administrative processing". This is done at the Department of State in Washington, DC and may or may not involve review by other federal agencies, including (but not limited to) the FBI. Based on...
