San Jose Tracker - Through USC marriage

Hey Romit et al, The interview was success. My wife got her passport stamped and we are going back home for Christmas :) There's not a whole lot I can write about the interview. It was a typical, straight forward nice officer interview we read about quite often. We were surprised the...

I have a rather obscure question

David, Yes, you may want to consult a lawyer. My personal opinion is that you are not in trouble whatsoever and here is my reasoning why: - The purpose of I-20 and student visa is to give you a legal status while you study in the US. It is not a requirement to study, it's a requirement...

Question on Tax Return for affidavit of support.

I can't imagine how filing tax return separately could have saved you money. Do you have other dependents? Yes you have to meet 125% of poverty guidelines for 3 years. By filing these returns separately is not going to be a problem for your Naturalization case but it may become an isse...

    Ignorant Lawyers

I too god screwed by a lawyer... I don't know about a way to recoup the losses. I'd be interested in that. Maybe a small claims court for monetary loss (under 5k) but then there's another loss.....

San Jose Tracker - Through USC marriage

Unfortunately, it is "normal". San Jose has a "front log problem" and it takes them a while to open up the envelopes. Give them 2 more weeks or so. I don't think they have a phone number. The only way to find out is to make an INSPass appointment. I'd wait up to 6 weeks and then inquire...

Need Transit Visa for Brussels (Belgium) and Dubai(UAE) for Advance Parole Traveling?

I don't know. It seems that if you don't need to get off the plane, you shouldn't need a visa. My friend was denied transit through UK on his return trip and had to purchase full-fare ticket to get back to the US. During his transit through Heathrow he didn't have to clear Immigration but...

Need Transit Visa for Brussels (Belgium) and Dubai(UAE) for Advance Parole Traveling?

Check with the Belgian and UAE Embassies. Visa requirements depend on your country of citizenship and not your US (or other country) immigration status. There are very few exceptions, for example: Canada and Mexico will let you in as US Permanent resident if you enter directly from US...

Tax returns Q for spouses of USC

Oh, I see.... Well, I'm not aware of that situation and I have no idea what kind of docs to they need. Have you tried calling them? I did call them once in my lifetime with kind of similar question and they were very helpful.

Tax returns Q for spouses of USC

This is a very tricky topic so I'm going to generalize some things and omit few datils. Generally speaking, one becomes a US permanent resident for tax purposes after 6 months of residence reardless of his/her immigration status. IRS has its own rules, separate from INS. Regarding joint...

    Ignorant Lawyers

You must educate yourself on the topics, using every possible way, including a forum like this. Use lawyer only to consult specific steps. In many situations, the law says one thing but the reality is completely different. That's when lawyers and their experience are very useful. Remember, the...

    Proof of shared residence

Grumpybear, It's not too late to call the utilities, phone companies to put your name on the bills. It' rather common, specially with AOS people. ;) Do you work? If so, the address on your paystub should also help. Letters from firends could help. Address on your driver license. Don't...

Can I live overseas (in my country) while GC is in process?

Well, I don't follow events at NY's INS closely but I may have heard that they are currently running a pilot program where marriage based applications are scheduled for interview withing 90 days. I'm not sure about all of this, though.
