It is my understanding is that as soon as your 485 is approved, you are a permanent resident of this country regardless of whether you have stamped your passport or not. Stamp is nothing more than an evidence of your PR status. I don't think you have a valid H1B status any longer.

No, I didn't. I know people who got their approvals in January received their cards recently. Seems that it's taking around 8 to 9 months (for people in Minnesota at least - I don't know if it varies from state to state). You should get yours soon.

Status changed today for both my wife and me:
"On September 27, 2004, after approving your application, we ordered you a new card. Your card will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready."

If yours was a local office transfter case, you will probably get the plastic card within the next 2/3 weeks. Otherwise God knows when you will get it! No one seems to know (let me know if anyone knows).
