Hello :) They don't usually keep the passport with them, so if they are not going to issue you the visa soon, they usually give you the passport back especially that you have to submit one copy of the first pages of your passport along with the other documents on the interview day. In my case...

It is definitly a scam. You'd better delete it and never respond to it.
