Moderator: Can you please move this thread to one of the post-citizenship issues forums? Thank you!
Continuing.... True, OCI is certainly not citizenship. But it does provide a person with privileges and freedoms that one does not get with just a tourist visa.
From a security standpoint...
The name check and fingerprint check are two different processes. Completion of the finger print check does not mean that the name check is complete.

Are you saying that the fact that FBI has sent back your FP results to USCIS means that you are not stuck in the name check? That's not a valid conclusion. We have many people on this forum whose FP results were sent back in good time, who have been stuck in the name check for many months.

Old thread, but for what it is worth, the FBI does not tell you about the quality or success of your fingerprints. They simply tell you that they sent the 'results' back to USCIS. The 'results' could be any of the following:
i) No match => All clear
ii) Match => Yikes
iii) Unreadable prints...
Based on eveything that has been said here, it's almost certain that they are looking for your passport(s) that cover the 5 years immediately preceding your N-400 application, in order to evaluate the required minimum presence in the US.
Since your passport seems to be misplaced at home rather...
Glad to see this oft-discussed topic in action once again :)
1) Probably true.
2) You are right. Americans, or most whites for that matter, have always got preferential treatment in the Middle East owing to skin color and financial clout. Like it or not, that's a fact. These days, it may...
How do you know that they don't have the rights? Anything that you see there is publically available information.
Initially, they tease you with basic information. You then have to pay if you want more details. It's a money making business. It's as simple as that. The sad part is that the...
They can't remove it because it's not really their database. They just query various sources and display the results to us. The sad and scary part is that some of the information can be downright wrong, depending on the accuracy of the source. Even worse is the fact that some credit reporting...
That certainly used to be the case. I'm not 100% sure if it's true anymore. I personally know of one recent case where native-born, white Americans were initially stopped from crossing into Canada for not carrying their passports with them. They were let in, of course with a friendly reminder to...
USCIS should stop using the words "signature" and "sign" loosely. Why don't they just tell us to "write" our names in cursive when that's all they expect of us?

None of us here know who these gentlemen are, so we are all speculating. I am sure money changed hands, but fanaticism or nationalism are usually the primary drivers. Money just makes the operation sweeter and loosens up any inhibitions. These two gentlemen are not necessarily amateurs...
Espionage, with money thrown in to make things move quicker, is what this is. Such incidents make USCIS/FBI scrutinize immigrants carefully - and rightly so - even though most immigrants are innocent, and end up suffering.
It has been very well established that similar espionage over the past...
Remember at this time USCIS (just like any human or other organization) must be also trying hard to get the heat off its back and protect its reputation. One of their top priorities right now would be damage control. The next 3 - 5 months will be very telling. If things turn out as promised, we...
shie0023: Congratulations! You made my day, I'm happy for you!
I had a feeling all along that things were normal beneath the surface, but at the same time I also had this 1% uneasy feeling. I'm thrilled to read that it all went well. From your posts, it looks like you also changed...
shie0023, sorry to learn that it went this way. As I type this, I am hoping that you post another message saying that the first one was an April 1 joke.
Anyways, based on your post, I think the officer was not 100% sure on how to finalize your case. He must have thought that you would...
I doubt you will get the answer on this board, since your question does not really relate to immigration law. But you never know; someone on here might be knowledgeable.
I understand your question, but I don't know the correct answer. I do know for a fact that certain (low level) clearances...
Sorry, I did not mean to add to any complexity with my post. I have seen posts where people have requested a letter from SSS, hence I had responded. I tend to think that some of those people who requested the SSS letter did it out of paranoia. They did not even have their GC till they were over...
One point which nobody seems to be raising is whether one should get an 'all clear' letter from SSS.
If you were on H-1B, you would not have had to register, and that's fine. The point is whether you still need a letter from SSS that gives you a clean chit. I personally feel it's not needed...
I just read a snippet about this last night, so don't know all the details. I agree the media might be overplaying it, but any security conscious establishment should not offshore such things. Even though it may appear harmless to the untrained eye, there are very serious security holes. The...
