    It is Supplemental Security Income, not social security. To get social security you must have worked for ten years. Just a friendly reminder, a person with asylum status can under current law get SSI only for seven years. After seven years the person will need to become a citizen.

    Whether the DHS will appeal is really up to the trial attorney and ultimately his/her boss. If your attorney has a good working relationship with ICE, he/she should use that to your advantage and lobby ICE to not appeal.
