I have a question for ''really confused". Do you want to be a citizen? you can apply and if denied use the letter as evidence that you are a not a citizen. just thinking.......

what you have is done is risky. Simply hope that he gets his visa because from a immigration point of view, he is married and might be staying in usa. he needs to be prepare to show all evidence showing that he doesnt intent to move, even if all facts show the opposite (marriage). good luck.
