Yeah, that happened to my cousin and her husband, she gave birth in our home country and after 1 1/2 years they return to US with the re-entry permit. Their child is almost six now and soon will become US citizen too.

I think R visas are easy to obtain, my ex-classmates easily traveled to US for about 2 years now. One of their seniors in their place already got his Green Card and soon be applying for citizenship.

My 2 year old cousin also overstayed for 30 days, she's going to 4 now and will fly again to US, I don't get yet the information on how her parents fixed things but the Us consulate here help them.

Yeah, but it's really a questionable matter when it comes to applying for citizenship. If you could stay a little bit longer once your GC before applying for re entry permit, do it.
