Case status changed from "Decision Pending" to "Application pending"

I have read many people that were approved after having status change to application is pending. But not seem to often to see decision pending to fees waived or approval. Also, I have not seen any that were denied after application is pending.

I have a feeling application pending is when decision is submitted to last phase of background check and new EAD card production before changing to decision mailed .

Any thoughts?
There are fast approval cases where it only showed decision pending then approval. But I would assume at some point it was application pending in a very short period since those are fast.

Longer period of application pending mean cases are under extended review. It should not lead to a fast denial or refer though, since refer decisions are also made in a fairly straightforward process. No need for longer wait.

I would say if a case is under application pending for long period, at least it is not a straightforward refer or denial. The case is likely complicated and they need more time. However, they can still refer the case at any point.

As for what you said, I do have hope as well that this is the last phase of wait before everything clears out. I personally have waited almost ten years and I hope anyone who has a genius case gets approved eventually.

Would you like to share your timeline?

I got a letter from Tustin office hand signed by AO who interviewed me says my decision will be mailed. The letter was mailed on the same day DC called me, and the same day my status changed to application pending. I have never seen anyone got a letter about this. Has anyone ever received a letter in addition to the call that the decision will be mailed?

I also got a signed letter after the call from Tustin office (the phone number had CA area code). The date on the letter was the same as the call. There was a signature (not a legible name, more like a scribble), and 'SAO' title next to it. I wonder if that means that I was interviewed by supervisor asylum officer, or if they just sign it off..
My case has been 'decision is pending' for over 2 months...

Good to know that you also got a letter for this. Have you tried to reach out to them since it has been two months?

There is people reporting that after Paying the $100 annual fee. The status is changing from Decision Pending to Application Pending. It seems a normal expected change once you pay the $100 annual fee. Has someone familiar with this?

Ive paid today and nothing major changes, decision pending from mid May til early July, then application pending, and last Monday it turned to decision pending and I got my receipt for $100 fee, paid it and still says decision pending. Based on past of others experiences I would assume at most it would be 3 more weeks til I get decision mailed? Who knows!

I also waited for 9 years. My interview was on Sep 26th. I should go pick up tomorrow. But I got a phone call from officer today. She told me the decision will be mailed to me. Some people said it’s a good sign. I’m not sure. Wish we both have a good luck.
Hello Seven11 did you get any update? Mine nothing yet…

Same here. After 10 years 2 interviews. 1st one on april and 2nd one on May. Waiting for the decision since then. Changed to application pending for about 2 weeks and then back to decision pending again. Emailed them twice. Standard response. I have Submitted an inquiry to the senators office last week. Lets see.

Hi did you get any updates? For the senator inquiry

It’s a very exhausting and difficult time, and I don’t know what to do. I completed my asylum interview about eight months ago, in April 25 , and my case has been in ‘applction is pending’ status for three months. I feel like my case has been forgotten, and I still haven’t received any notice about paying the annual fee even though it’s been a year since I filed my application in August 2024. I’m very frustrated and worried. Is this delay happening to everyone, or only to my case? Or is it just slow processing from the Tustin LA office ?
Any thoughts please?

Hello everyone, I just wanted to share a good news. I got my asylum approved on 11/19/2025 at the Tustin office, and right now my new card is being produced. I finally received the approval after submitting my asylum application 9 years ago. It has been a very long and difficult wait, but it’s finally over. I hope this gives encouragement to anyone still waiting. Stay strong, and I hope you all receive good news soon!
