Renewing NP before GC? - I'm very confused

Hello all! This is my first post. I've been looking for an answer to my question but I cannot find a law about it and there's all sort of information online. So hopefully you will be able to help me.

I'm an asylee. What happens if I renew my NP before receiving my GC. Will I have trouble when I adjust status later? If there is a law or rule about this, can you point me to the web page that explains all this?

Thanks in advance!

Renewing your passport could be seen as a lack of fear of persecution by the authorities of your country (embassy or consulate) and seeking to travel under their protection (by traveling on a passport issued by them). Before you get your GC, it is a bad move. You'll need a refugee travel document (RTD) to re-enter the US under the same status. Many renew their passport AFTER they get their GC. This is also a sign that you are not that afraid of your country's authorities, but the US seems to ignore, and sometimes even encourage this. If anything, wait until you get your GC, and apply for an RTD now.

Thank you for the reply, it makes a lot of sense. What if I renew the NP but never get to travel outside the country before the GC? Is it still not advisable?

Most of the time, it does not matter but to be safe, we don't renew NP because it raises concerns so my question is why do you want to renew your NP??

Actually no reason in particular, it is up for renewal so I was wondering whether or not it was a good idea to renew it.

Don't complicate things for no reason. In life every action has a positive or a negative consequence so we need to analyze every action we take.

Well the OP was just asking whether or not it was a good idea to renew one's COP passport at this stage. I think we all agree that it's a bad idea.
