Hi,

I almost read most of the threads in this forum. Thanks everybody for your useful information. However, There is a question that I never found any detailed information about.
I know that if someone who has won the DV is in the USA can do either of AOS or CP. CP is faster though for AOS you do not need to travel. However, I heard that sometimes there are long lines for the USCIS which we need to file for AOS at. Since there is a deadline for DV which is Sep. 30th, I am afraid if I file for AOS, I miss it.
Now I need your help. My case number is AS9XXX which should be current in January. I live in Maryland under F1 visa. And traveling is not very easy since I am a student, however, if I know there is a chance that I miss the deadline for Sep 30th I would travel. Which way do you suggest me to go for?AOS or CP?Is there any chance they reject someone in CP but not in AOS?!How long does it usually take since your case number become current and you send your documents to USCIS till they give you interview appointment?!
Please help me. It is such a difficult situation for deciding!I really don't want to miss any chances.
Thanks and reagrds

Your CN is good to do AOS. Since you will be current in January, I don't see why you won't get the visa before 30 September.

Thanks so much for the reply. The only worry is for the long lines in the USCIS. Does it have difference which branch I apply to?Chicago, vermont, california, nebraska,..?

If you become current in Jan. you shouldn't have to worry unless you have issues in your case. But any normal case should be able to do USCIS for Jan. and even later on. My friends case # became current in Nov. or Dec. and she got her interview in Febr. since the time line was 4 months for Tampa. The time line was absolutely correct so check the time line for the city where you will get your interview.

Thanks for the help. I checked for Maryland. Average for MD is 5.8 months and for DC is about 9 months!!!In this case I think it is better to go for CP!!! Unless I am allowed to apply for USCIS fields other than where I live!!Is it possible?!!!

Thanks for your help
