Hello all,
I forgot to file my tx for 2007, I was doing my internship from jan,2007 to Jun,2007. I got marriend in Aug 2007. Recently, we received a letter from IRS saying that I have not file tax for 2007 yet. I was an international student at that time, I didn't know that I had to file the tax. The problem is that I am going to apply for my 10 yr GC in Dec 2008, is this will affect my permanent GC process? Also, what I can do know? Can I just pay for the penalty? or I have to file my tax for 2007 ASAP. If any of you can help me out for this, I will strongly appreciate that.

The IRS contacted you about it, so you have to file the tax return even if your income was too low to owe any tax. If your income will be included to meet the income requirements for the green card process, you will need to file that tax return before you file the GC paperwork.

Thank you very much. i am currently going to school and we will use my husband's income to file my 10 yr gc because i don't have a job. What is the penalty? I mean I only worked 6 months for that job. Can i file the tax now? or I have to wait to next year. Thanks Everyone.

Funny i wasn't even here in 2005-2006 but in 2008 recieved a letter from IRS asking me to file the taxes for 05-06.

I thought it was ridiculous and didn't do anything but apparently the letter kept on coming so i filled the 1040 put zeros every where and then the letter stopped.

Please file immediately especially if you were working on a 1099
