Hi guys,
Quick question, i have interview/test scheduled for December, but one thing is bothering me, i came to USA when i was 24 years old, i have received my GC when i was 30 years old now i'm almost 36 and in final stages of my citizenship application. However i have never registered for selected services, heck nobody told me to do this and honestly first time when it dawn on me that something like "ss" exist was when i was filling out my N-400 application. Now i'm of course too old for registration, but what should i say if during my interview officer will ask me about it...:confused:

What status (visa) were you in when you came to USA?
 
Guys, thanks for fast answers. I have entered US on Visa class R type I...then of course after 6 months i have overstayed...so what is the impact of this?

That is a problem, but it's outside the 5 year window for good moral character. You should be fine.

Hi Robert ,We have almost the same case and Im really freaking out,Here is my case,Arrived in US as a tourist(R VISA) on 12/14/99 at the age of 24 yrs old and stayed until 26th birthday ,I was able to remain legal because my request for extension to stay was approved,Got my GC last 06/13/03 at the age of 28.Im anxious that they will ask about my SSS durin my interview this 12/14/09 .Do you think Guys that I need to ask for a letter from the SSS that Im not required to sign up ?or it is enough to tell the IO that Im not required because Im a legal non-permanent resident when I entered the US and I was able to remain on that status until my 26th birthday? I just want to be on the safe side.Thanks
 
have u checked if ur already registered ?

i was freaked out abt this too , but when i checked it with the website ,it shows i am registered. I called them up to know how it happened and they said it was from the DMV i had signed up. I later checked the DL application form, in the fineprint we sign against, it mentions about showing willingness to register in ss. my sis who works with the DMV didnt know about it...... guys could u check in the website of ss ? let us all know the results???

Stop worrying about it. You were in valid nonimmigrant status when you were under 26, you obtained your GC over 26, and you are over 31 now. Once you are over 31 they are not going to deny you solely based on failure to register, even if you were supposed to register.

And the R visa is not a tourist visa, it is a religious worker visa.

Thanks for the response and I hope they will not deny me,My Visa Type by the way is R B1/B2,Sorry if I post it incomplete,Now that makes it as a Tourist Visa.Almost all people that I ask told me that Im fine because Im over 31,well I hope so,I filed my AOS on 03/14/2001 and my friend told me that maybe I was registered without my knowledge because my lawyer used the new form where USCIS registers you automatically to SSS.Again I just hope I will be fine during the interview.Thanks Again
 
Who knows you might already be registered. If you had a driver license application as it was my case without knowing it! Call the SSS and give them your last name and first name as well as where you used to live. You will not be able to do this online since it will ask for your social Security and it looks like you did not have one during this period. For more info click on my posts!
