If I get Citizenship, Is it a must to give green card back?

My mother went to Ukraine on US passport several weeks ago, although she is clearly a Ukrainian citizen as well. Nobody asked her any question, except upon entry, a lady border guard verified my mother's surname in a perfect Russian language. My mother said "Да", and that was the end of conversation.

In your case, that lady should have known better to address your wife as "Vy", not "Ty" :rolleyes: The biggest problem with Ukrainian border officers is that they pay a lot of attention where everyone is going even if the person is not Ukrainian citizen. In case with Ukrainian citizens, they often want to see the immigration documents for the destination country. Sometimes, I want to say "Mind your own business", but I know to keep my mouth shut ;)

Same for my parents-in-law.
They came here as refugees, but it was 1992.
They took the train from Kiev to Moscow and then they flew out of Moscow, but I believe they were citizens of Ukraine at that time.

Did it depend on what kind of visa the person use to go to another country?
If the person use F-1 visa, how could he be deprived of his citizenship so that he could not come back?

In those days USSR citizens were required to get an exit visa stamp for any trip from the Soviet Union, permanent or temporary. In practice it was more or less impossible for ordinary people to travel abroad for a temporary trip, that is as a tourist, student etc. One had to be a part of the Soviet nomenklatura in order to go for such a trip and even then it was considered kind of a plum and was fairly rare. I personally have never heard of anyone from USSR coming to the U.S. as an F-1 student before about 1990, although maybe kids of some big party bosses did that on occasion.
Those USSR citizens who wanted to emigrate and go and live in another country permanently (which was also very difficult), were required to give up their USSR citizenship before being issued an exit visa.

F-1 Visa for citizen of Soviet Union? Never heard of it. Soviet Union wouldn't let their citizens get brainwashed by "Evil USA"
It was pain in the *** to get a passport for travel.
USSR has internal passport and external. Internal passport was mainly used for local registration, lets say you moving within Soviet Union, republic, city, even within same building and same floor, but different apartment. You have to bring and produce N-quantity of different memos(Spravka), stay in the line for whole day, sometimes few days, just to get your passport stamped with your registration(Propiska).
Based on local regulations with Internal Passport, try to Imagine how to get External Passport and Exit Visa (Permission to go Overseas ) or ( Permission for permanent residency overseas).
 
And another thing, if USSR citizen had relatives overseas, especially in USA, this dude literally got fu**d, don't even think to get a good job in USSR. USSR will make your life miserable.

Yeah, you can go to Bulgary, Poland etc but it was limited and still involving with collecting memos(Spravka). USSR was a main producer of memos for its citizens. :D:D
My mom still has that soviet mentality, and has a big box with all kind of memos. When I moved to the States get asylum here, i was on the phone talking to her, and she was worrying about me not getting a memos from approving officials and not getting a leave stamp in my documents. I was like mom they don't care about those memos and internal documents with residency stamp(Propiska) on it. I love my mom.

Yeah, kids can play with it. One kid pretending to be a Border Control Officer, another kid can play as guy who's trying to enter US with fake Green Card. Couple other kids can be a detention officer and negotiator.
 
I also assume this is a humor by WBH otherwise OP's GC in wrong hands (once "bad guy or gal" takes away from kids) may be source of a serious ID fraud.

As for the original post, either the author wants a souvenir (indeed, we all remember what we went through), OR he/she is from the country that does not tolerate double citizenship, and showing the GC, one can still get both passports. Don't we have any respect to the laws of our birth countries even though we can't wait for our US passport?

He already has Canadian citizenship. He got it in Dec 2005.

You ask for suggestions. May be your twin brother can eat more donuts to look more like you and, then it might be easier to serve his jail time for taken oath instead of you.

However, there are already too many people in the US jails. You probably can see from this forum that we all are going to be proud US citizens who actually respect this country and its laws. So, I change my mind! Before I thought it was funny to suggest to picture-frame your plastic card and hang it on the wall. NOW, I think this is actually the best solution for your soul search problems. We, new citizens and future citizens, would not be happy to see among us somebody who is lacking any understanding of the very concept of the citizenship.
So,please let us know where you live and we will find a picture framing shop for you!

Correct. My mother was able to visit Bulgaria and Poland on several occasions. From what I remember her telling me, once a USSR citizen made a certain amount of visits to an Easter Bloc (Socialist) country, he/she would be eligible to apply for permission to visit a Capitalist country. Those visiting the U.S. were only able to exchange $45 worth of currency.

In many threads, the OPs ask about a friend's case which is usually his/her case.

Could it be that in this case the OP is asking about "his case" but is actually someone else's case?

I agree there is something not right, though.
