Need your help- Steps after Recommended Approval

Dear Sirs/Madams,

Last week, I(and my spouse) was granted "recommended approval" by USCIS.

Matter is happening in California, so it would be even more helpful if you had similar experience here.

I need your advise in relation to what steps I should be taking now?

I already applied to EAD.
1) How long does it usually take to get EAD?
2) May I apply to SSN while I am waiting EAD or I should receive the EAD first and only after that approach to SS Administration?
3) Final Approval? How long does it take? Recommended approval says, final is waiting background/name check?
3) If I receive final, lets say in 3 months, what date will be considered an official approval date? It is important to identify when i will be eligible for PR, right?
4) We have a young 2 years old son back in my country. How soon we can start application for him and how long usually does it take? in California, in particular?
5) Last but not least question- Education. Can we apply to universities, do we have any support as asylee? We are vulnerable, limited language skills, poor financially
6) Any other action I should take now but I am not doing ???

Thank You very much!

Darren

Dear Sirs/Madams,

Last week, I(and my spouse) was granted "recommended approval" by USCIS.

I need your advise in relation to what steps I should be taking now?

I already applied to EAD.
1) How long does it usually take to get EAD?
3 Month average

2) May I apply to SSN while I am waiting EAD or I should receive the EAD first and only after that approach to SS Administration?
Yes After you get your approval letter/ white card I-94 form that stating your asylum status, staple it to your passport and bring it along with Dl or second form of identification to SSA office

3) Final Approval? How long does it take? Recommended approval says, final is waiting background/name check?
Don't know, depends on background checks

3) If I receive final, lets say in 3 months, what date will be considered an official approval date? It is important to identify when i will be eligible for PR, right?
Date when you have been approved (final approval)

4) We have a young 2 years old son back in my country. How soon we can start application for him and how long usually does it take? in California, in particular?
After approval

5) Last but not least question- Education. Can we apply to universities, do we have any support as asylee? We are vulnerable, limited language skills, poor financially

You can take free english classes, There is no free College or University as far as I know. If you wanna go to University you have to pay four your tuition and regular credit hours like everybody else
6) Any other action I should take now but I am not doing ???

If you male between 18 and 26 you have to register with Selective Service
if you moving you have to send them form AR-11 reporting change of your address within 10 day of your relocation
And you are not recommend to go to your country of origin (claimed persecution) for doing so your asylum status can be revoken

Thank You very much!

Darren

What's wrong with you Unclo Oe?

1) How long does it usually take to get EAD?
3 Month average?
False less than 4 weeks based on recommended approval.

2) May I apply to SSN while I am waiting EAD or I should receive the EAD first and only after that approach to SS Administration?
Yes After you get your approval letter/ white card I-94 form that stating your asylum status, staple it to your passport and bring it along with Dl or second form of identification to SSA office.

You may apply for SSN after you receive your EAD you just applied for. When the decision on your asylum will be final then you can apply for the unrestricted SS card.

6) Any other action I should take now but I am not doing ???

If you male between 18 and 26 you have to register with Selective Service
That is totally wrong as well, You will register for Selective service when then decision on you asylum becomes final now you are still asylum applicant.

Uncle Joe is right about ead. I applied for ead c8 more than 4 weeks ago and it is still pending.

What's wrong with you Unclo Oe?

Nothing's wrong with me Bafo Usama

1) How long does it usually take to get EAD?
3 Month average?[/I] False less than 4 weeks based on recommended approval.[/I][/I]
3 MONTHS that's the time-line from USCIS, if somebody's took 4 weeks, it doesn't mean everybody get EAD in 4 weeks. Capise?

2) May I apply to SSN while I am waiting EAD or I should receive the EAD first and only after that approach to SS Administration?
Yes After you get your approval letter/ white card I-94 form that stating your asylum status, staple it to your passport and bring it along with Dl or second form of identification to SSA office.[/B][/I]

You may apply for SSN after you receive your EAD you just applied for. When the decision on your asylum will be final then you can apply for the unrestricted SS card.

She/He was talking about unrestricted SS card. restricted SS card you can get with your valid visa (for medical purpose, services etc) Unrestricted SS card you can get only after final approval

Uscis site says that EAD C8 takes 3 months not 4 weeks. It used to be 4 weeks. My application has been pending for almost 5 weeks. Am I eligible for an interim EAD?

Agree

Nothing indicates that he/she are asking about unrestricted SSN and beleive me, asylum applicants are looking for any SSN in the begining.

I just checked USCIS website and it is 4 weeks waiting time for the EAD in California center

Darren Fletcher, apply for EAD, get it and go to SS center for SSN, get a driving license from BMV, apply for a secured credit card to build a credit history, work and live :)

Thank You All!

The picture is much clearer for me now!

I assume, EAD will be mailed to me in 4 weeks time, but it might take up to 3 months in special cases.

Raziel:
Spot on! Maybe I didn't present in detail, but I meant any SSN restricted or whatever. And you rightly mentioned why I need any SSN at the moment, DL, credit history and almost everything here requires SSN.

What is Selective Service? I am over 26, but my wife falls under this age period. Well, I can try to find out myself too, don't be mad at me if you don't like the nature of the question.

Having read most of the threads in this forum, I am getting depressed.

Especially, final approval time and processing time for derivative applications. I was tellling my wife, we will be able re-join with our child very soon, maybe 5-6 months. Judging on posts here, I am getting scared that it might take long time before we see our final approval and even longer to see our child....
Normally, i am a patient person, but it is killing my wife and i take it very badly...
She was never away from our child but now it has been almost 8 months.

What will happen, if we decide not to wait years for derivative application and bring my child as a visitor through the third country?

Do you have any encouraging experience?

thanks in advance!
Darren

Turn you common sense on Razel, She asked EAD and SS card, which autorized her for work.

you can bring your child to USA as a visitor and this will expedite his application "if the visiting visa was approved"

or you can visit the child in a 3rd country with no negative effects...

Darren Fletcher has already answered your "common sense" here:

bafoussam,
uscis site says EAD C8 takes 3 months, check this site https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplay.do

I also called uscis call center and the rep told me that he can't request any action until 90 days passes. He said this applies to EAD C8 as well.

Again, check this site https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplay.do

confusing....

When I check the new layout https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/Init.do it will give 4 weeks, see attachment too

Darren,
You shouldn't be depressed at all. At least you got a positive response from uscis fast. Compare yourself to those who are still waiting for the intial decision. Few people in this forum have been waiting for the initial decision for over six months (no decision yet) and one member has been waiting for the intial decision for over 3 years (no decision yet). You are in much much better situation. Praise God.

to clear it more for you... even if the average time frame was 1 day "and not 4 weeks", they will not take action in any delayed case only after 90 days.

Assylum, I wish you could get it. Its not a matter of time line to receive the initial decision. He's worried about the child.
There's a way to request an expedited service for a relative in danger in the COP but you have to demonstrate it and it has to be after you final approval
