Gurus out there, I need your advise for interview.
I made multiple 5.5 month trips ( in fact 5 of them ) but never broke the
Continuous residence OR
Physical presence
Also never made back to back trips.
Same US address for the last 5 Years.
Taxes filed all 5 years.

Total days outside the US were 897 days.

Be prepared to provide proof of US residency ties during statutory period including US tax receipts, US rental/mortgage statements, US utility bills, US bank accounts , location of spouse (if applicable), reason for trips, etc at interview.

What was the purpose of your repeated lengthy trips?

I also have a related question. I have just one long trip lasting 173 days. I think that is called 5 months trip in USCIS terms right?

I have lost many night sleep... when is your interview?

One lengthy trip under 6 months isn't something I would loose sleep over. The IO may ask what the purpose of the trips was, so unless you answer something like "do go work for Bollywood production company" or "to go live with my allari spouse" , you should be fine.

Thanks for replying Bob. I just hope I get a nice IO.

Nice to hear this

I know about a person who made about 6-7 trips of 5 months each and worked for Bollywood movies(Hindi Films) as cinematographer and also shot few documenters in India. He did not face any problem at the time of US citizenship. I also know about Actress who completed 6 Indian movies that were unfinished when she got married and came to US and later she made about 15 trips to Bombay India to complete the movies and her 3 trips were about 5 months and she also did not face any problems and got citizenship (her husband was in US and for 2-3 trips he also went to Bombay).

Nice to hear this. I made 5 trips of 5.5 months each, but never back to back.

But other people with less travel outside the US faced problems and got denied.

Continuous residence is a subjective thing at the discretion of the IO, so people should be aware that one person's success or failure doesn't reliably indicate the success or failure of another person's application.

Yep not uncommon to hear people gone for 3 months and getting denied. It all depends on each individual case and the ties they have, nature of the trip, the IO and a million other things that will determine if you are safe or not.

People have been fine with being out 8 months, others have got denied for being out 2 months. Everyone is different...

Denied for 2 months? I've never heard of that happening, unless the 2 month trip was part of a long series of other trips.

Truedesi,

I had two long trips on my application, 168 days & 140 days, spaced well apart, and about six 2-3 weeks trips scattered in there. Other than checking that I met the physical/continuous presence requirement, my IO never asked about those two trips at all. I did expect her to, and had copies of payslips showing I was working for a US company on an overseas assignment. In hindsight, I would have also had copies of tax transcripts with me also.
