unemployment benefits

No. Employees and employers pay regular premium into a state mandated insurance fund. Unemployment benefits are paid out of this fund and do not constitute a public charge.

does past unemployment benefits hinder the process of naturalization
?

thanks

Receiving Unemployment benefits is not receiving public assitance
so it does not matter.

Even receiving public assistance is not an issue for citizenship. It is only a issue for GC applicantion that is why you see such a question :"
Have you received public asstance" on I-485 but not on N=400

Really?

Can you please clarify the below statement of yours? I thought receiving public benefits disqualifies one from receiving citizenship? Food stamps, Social Security Income (SSI - for those above 65 and low income) etc are "federal benefits". Is that right?

Additionally look up this old thread where some one was denied for receiving "benefits":

That wasn't a denial, it was a continuance, which means the case was to be decided at a later date, probably with a second interview. The poster did not report the final result.

In addition, it appears that person's mother was not truly eligible for Medicare (not been in the US long enough to qualify), although she was somehow getting it, so that may have raised a red flag that required further investigation.

To help minimize any doubts I would suggest one stay away from any public benefits including unemployments until they become CITIZENS...... even if you are elligible.
Just my point of view.

Bankruptcy as a GC holder? not sure but seems would be a fare tool for questioning except maybe your GC was based on investment..... but still....!!!!
Not sure about that... but hey, even American born Citizens get denied some benefits and some federal jobs due to bankruptcy....
I should also mention that banckrupcy does have its classification based on how severe it is....
so I'll say expect questions and be ready to give them a reasonable answer during interview... It 's a fare game.
Good luck.

So, what does unemployment benefits has to do with Citizenship? the unemployment benefits are between the States that governs them and the employers. Nothing to do with the Federal level.. does it? And if the citizenship is based on 5 years residence with good moral character, paying tax, obeying the law... bankruptcy or unemployment should not be an issue to consider during the interview process..

Exactly. If one was unemployed for a long period of time with no visible means of support that might be an issue, but the mere collection of unemployment benefits is not.

If anything, being unemployed for a long time while not collecting unemployment benefits makes it look even worse. If you collect the benefits, and the IO asks about your financial support during the period of unemployment, you can say the unemployment benefits were your main source of finances. Otherwise, if you weren't collecting anything and you have that big gap in your employment history, you need some other explanation, which may or may not be more convincing to the IO.

The thing to do is to study the eligibility rules diligently so you know what you can legitimately collect, and then go ahead and collect it if you're eligible.

My contract expired more than a year a go and I am not even sure if I will have a job by the interview time. But I had a lot of savings to live on, I still have a lot of money left that I can support myslef with for the nex few years. So if the IO ask me how I support myself, I can show him/her my bank statements. So do you think I will still have problems?

If you have the bank statements, along with other evidence to make it credible that you accumulated that large bank balance legally (e.g. tax returns showing a large salary, inheritance, lottery winnings, etc.), that should be good enough.
