Schengen Visa Question - RTD, no GC

I'm thinking of taking a trip to Europe in May, visiting several countries. My preliminary plan is to enter through Norway and work my way south, staying 2-3 days here and there. So I have a few questions:

1. As it states in the title, I don't have a GC, only RTD. Is it an issue when you apply for a Schengen visa? (I know about France, but I'm not going there anyway).

2. Many embassies' websites say that they don't recommend buying the plane tickets until the application is approved, but they still require confirmed flight information... How do you do that?

3. On the topic of plane tickets - I read somewhere that consulate officers are somewhat suspicious when they see one-way flights. My plan is to get a one-way ticket to Norway, and a one-way ticket from Germany back to the US. Will that present any problems? Or am I over-analyzing here?

4. It says that they need to see confirmed hotel reservations. My travel plans within Europe will probably change on a daily basis, so I'm not planning to make a whole lot of pre-arrangements, and mostly just go wherever the road takes me. How should I explain that to the consul?

5. What types of questions do they generally ask at the interview? This will be my first "real" visa interview, so I'm a bit nervous. I went to Egypt a few years ago, and they didn't care about anything, just told me to complete the application and pay the fee, no questions asked. I have a feeling that Schengen countries do a little bit more checking and asking.

I apologize if some of these questions have been answered in the past (possibly over and over :o ). I'm relatively new to this forum, so any advise and personal experience will be much appreciated!

What I can say is, if u have a job and bank statement showing sufficient money there should be no problem.

Yes you need to show a roundtrip ticket and not a one way ticket. You can go to expedia and create an iternary and print that as the ticket you plan to travel on.

As for hotel confirmation, go online to any marriott or holiday inn or any other well known names and book your hotel travels througout europe. YOu could always cancel them 1 day before you depart.

All they ask in an interview is the reason for your visit, etc. If you are from any middle eastern countries, you may be subject to more questioning and required to fill an additional form(as per German embassy, others I dont know).

All you need is a possible flight itinerary. So go to any ticket site and find a roundtrip flight. Orbitz lets you choose 2 different cities, so you can fly into Norway and out of Germany. Or, to make things easier, just show a ticket flying in and out of Norway. As for the hotels, do what wantmygcnow suggested. Same thing. Plan something in general. If I were you, I'd ask for a visa valid for a longer period than what I need. That way, you have flexibility. Don't tell the consulate/embassy that, hehe. Make sure to show proof of funds. And, if you are a student and don't work, it'll take much longer to get the visa, so keep that in mind when you apply. I've done it a couple of times (Dutch visa), and it took about a month for me since I had an RTD and no job. They'll ask you general questions. Don't be afraid, unless you have reason to be.

wantmygcnow,
I contacted the German Embassy and they said I don't need visa for Germany as long as I am travelling with RTD (and not RP) .. So, how come that someone will need additional forms to fill in when no visa is required?
Did you travel to Germany with GC + RP ?

I have entered Germany with RTD only for about 5 times and They don;t even Ask me a Thing!!! They are very educated and knowledgeable They treat you with respect and going through immigration there is a breeze :) Good Luck

Sorry i was not clear. Yes I used RP + GC. RTD is valid for 1 year so I got a RP and a visa.

Thank you for all your replies, folks!! That's pretty much what I was thinking, but I just wasn't sure, so I thought I'd ask.

I also noticed that round trip is cheaper than the one way trip :) you book a roundtrip flight even if you are not going to use the return ticket

Has anyone in this forum with a RTD only(no GC) travelled through France lately without a transit visa? I checked their various consulates websites,Boston,Chicago and Los Angeles says with a valid US iussued RTD,no transit visa required, but those of Washington and Houston say transit visa required.I aslo eamioled houston and was confirmed that.Any input, experince,I want to travel to Asia and my best/cheapest connection will be through France.

Before you travel, make sure that you are not affected by any inadmissibility bar such as 212.a.3.b or 212.a.9.b

RTD without GC sometimes is useless
