Given that I have only 12 days time left assuming interview/oath are done on the same day - Is it possible to get a US passport and Indian Visa within the time.

It appears that i may have to reschedule my interview or reschedule my travel.

Any ideas about US passport and Indian travel visa timelines in Whasington DC area.

just pray that your namecheck is cleared AND hope you get the oath on the same day.

After you become a US citizen, if you have airline tickets, go to the official passport agency, not post office and show them your tickets and they might issue you a US passport on the same day. no gurantees. here's the information: http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/about/agencies/agencies_913.html

Just remember, it may be a gamble to assume your application will be adjudicated and the oath administered the same day.
You can still travel to India on your India passport if you don't get your oath before you leave.
 
Not sure one can travel overseas with existing foreign passport as they may have taken green card during interview. (..and oath pending).

It may be a gamble to assume things get done in 10 or 12 days time frame.

Btw DO is fairfax and they do administer oaths everyday.
 
I don't think you can make it. After the interview, you'll have to wait for an oath letter. It takes 2-3 weeks. After the oath, it takes another week to get your passport replaced with a U.S. passport.

Then you'll probably need to show up in a major city to get your India visa. Some cities don't issue visas. You'll have to show up in person in order to get expedite visa on the same day.

I'm kinda in a similar situation.

They don't take your GC at interview..only at oath..so it's still possible to travel between interview and oath with the Indian passport.
 
Doesn't India allow dual citizenship?
You indeed need a US passport to leave and enter the US, but isn't your indian passport good to enter and exit India?

If India doesn't allow dual citizenship, they'll take both your GC and your old India passport during oath.
 
The OP can leave and renter on his India passport between interview and oath.
They don't take your India passport away at oath, only your GC. However, you can't use India passport after oath.

I think it's just an Indian thing.
Many countries, including vast majority of EU countries, allow dual citizens and in Italy you actually have to use your italian passport to enter and leave Italy, even if you hold a US one.

What if you don't use your Italian passport? Would they refuse you entry with your US passport alone?

Illegal? If you presented your US passport, why would they care if you have dual citizenship? Many dual citizenship holders choose to travel on their US passport exclusively instead of carrying two passports without repercussion, so I doubt it's illegal to do so.

It is illegal to use a different passport to enter your native country if you still hold citizenship from said native country.

Let's say on my (future) US passport there's a very italian name, it said I was born in Italy. I go through immigration at Milan airport, the police officer sees my bio and asks me if I'm an italian citizen as well. What do I say? Do I lie with pretty much same consequences as here in the US or do I present my italian passport as the law requires?
Same thing the other way. I could enter using my italian passport as a tourist, but why in hell would I do that?
Plus, you avoid stamps in your passport which saves you precious pages, as well as longer lines for foreigners at immigration ports.
 
If they ask if you're an Italian citizen , you tell him you are. Do you think they would care and bar you entry for traveling uniquely on a US passport alone?
Any references to it being illegal to travel on US passport alone for dual citizens?
 
Some countries have laws forbidding their own nationals traveling to their native country on a passport other than their native passport. For example, Turkey forbids a Turkish citizen entering Turkey with a passport other than the Turkish one. They probably do this so that they can better track whether the person has finished his mandatory military duty, and possibly whether he/she owes any taxes or is charged for something.

If you are charged for any crime or offense and you try to enter your country with a different passport, they may have difficulty prosecuting you. So, they just don't allow it.
