For the interview do I have to take the Tax Return paperwork?

If so do I have to request for Tax Return Transcripts or Tax returns photo copy. What is the number to call Mass IRS? How many years of Tax Transcripts should be collected?

Please respond.

Thanks in advance for all your responses.

Tax receipts are usually not required at interview unless you need to prove continuous residency requirement.

That being said, tax transcripts from the IRS are easy to obtain and are also available free of charge. While in most cases they are not required, I have read a few posts in which tax return info was requested at the interview. For peace of mind, I plan on bringing mine to the interview just in case the IO wants me to prove residency or that I have filed the applicable tax returns. I don't have the telephone number of the IRS available, but you might check for it on their website. Takes about 1-2 weeks to obtain the transcripts.

Last week, there was a post in one of the Connecticut threads where an interviewee was asked to show state tax returns.

I agree that you should go ahead and order your tax transcripts (free of charge) for the past 5 years and keep them with you until the interview. I was asked a specific question regarding my 2006 tax paperwork - how I filed, and whether I owed or got a refund - which means they do some digging on taxes. I have a feeling had I been unable to answer, I would have been asked to furnish proof of filing - which I had with me (in the form of transcripts).

Bottom line, it never hurts to be over-prepared.

Sounds to me like the same IOs requesting to see payment of traffic tickets less than $500. There's no reason for an IO to ask for a tax receipt unless there's something they're going after (sometimes that happens to be thin air).

What's funny Bobsmyth is that if my Interviewing Officer already knew that I filed in 2006, the status I filed, and how much I got back - then what was the purpose of asking me about my taxes? Did she need to justify that I really am the applicant? Were my pictures in the A-file from years of submitted material, plus my GC, plus my travel document, plus my driver's license not provide sufficient proof of identity?! I've have long stopped trying to justify or rationalize why USCIS employees behave as they do. This way I can stay sane. :)
