Anyone talked to an IO recently?

I have called several times in the last 2-3 weeks. But each time, I get the same answer of my timeframe less than the normal processing time of 7 months. They don't even transfer the call to IO. They don't even want to tell me if an interview letter has been sent. (I am a little concerned about IL because my post office has previously sent our letters to others' mailboxes. I don't want to miss the interview for this reason).

Just wondering what question I should be asking so that they would transfer me to an IO. I am calling the standard number (800-375-5238) and prompts 1-2-6. Any tips from people that talked to an IO recently?

Thanks.

The easiest way to get transfered to an IO is to tell customer service rep that you haven't received a receipt notice yet and that you filed more than 30 days ago.

If they catch you lying that is very bad ...I have heard that some thing they go with the ssn as well...

Any way ..beggers cant be choosers...

well, i have never had to lie to be transferred. i usually let them go through their generated response, like don't call for 12-24 months (is usually the response they'd give me). after they finish talking i'd say, thank you very much. could you please transfer my call to an immigration officer. a few times they'd say something like 'are you requesting be transferred..." and i'd say "yes please," or "is there a problem with transferring my call.' and they would do it.
bottom line, try your luck a few times. even if you have to hang up and call right back.
good luck

Don't be so paranoid..many of us have done this before as a means to talk to an IO..besides, it's not at all like lying at the interview when you're under oath, and there's really no way for them to find out since the information doesn't get transfered from customer service to IO during the transfer.
Also, use common sense..don't call and ask for an IO if it's only been a few weeks since you applied or don't overuse the system by calling them everyday.

Yeah, keep calling, as there is no more waiting! Why can't they use these extra resources to decrease processing times and not call-waiting times...

Calling repeatedly by trying your luck is a waste of USCIS resources and of your time. If there's a method to get to an IO directly, why not use it instead even if it involves deception? I don't consider it lying since you're not gaining anything out of it but the service you require.

no need to get upset. i only told what i did. wasting USCIS resources? how? by asking to be transferred? bless your heart!

I'm not getting upset..I'm just saying that what's the point to calling repeatedly if they don't transfer you using your method when there's a sure method in place to get to an IO everytime? By using your method, if the rep refuses to transfer you, you suggest to "try your luck" and call again..that's the part I'm referring to wasting resources since you're having to call over again instead of having your call transfered the first time around.

point well taken. i guess why i didn't suggest he gives a false info is because doing something like that scares me. and the reason to call back is hoping you'll get another person having a better day than the first time.
i have to say i have only had to call back once or twice as my request would usually be respected.

I used to use your method in the past to but then Lolali suggested I try new method and it has worked since. Do what your comfortable with..I wouldn't want you to be scared everytime you call them by deceiving them.

i hope to god, i won't have to call ever again. my interview is on the 12th. and actually the odd thing is i had called days before and was told in queue and then called a few days later and the IO had told me a notice was sent.
:)
