Passport validity for entering the USA

We have GC. My wife is overseas on vacation right now and her passport expires exactly two weeks from the date she is planning to return. Is the two weeks validity of passport an issue to re-enter the USA?

Thanks

No problem if the PP valid at the POE, even if there is only one day of validity left. With a GC there is no obligation to leave the US by any given date, so your passport does not have to be valid for six months like with various visas.

However, dumb airline staff might cause problems.

Technically you as a GC holder do not even need to show a passport to return to the United Staes as far as the DHS is concerned. But I am too worried about the airline.

Correct! If you go to the DHS website, you can print out a pdf that lists the required documents for entering the US. As a GC holder, all you require is the GC.

Thanks folks

Thanks folks for the information. To be on the safe side, I will call the airline and ask.

fyi: My wife was able to enter the USA with no problems. Thanks folks for your valuable suggestions.

Question: We got our GC almost 1 year ago. My wife has her madien name on the passport and GC. And her passport is up for renewal now. So, is this the right time to get her last name changed both in her passport and then GC?

Has anyone been able to enter the US after a flight from, say, Asia, showing just the GC? Anyone on this forum? I was even asked for a passport when I went to Canada by car for a day (both ways).

Depends on her plans and priorities. Replacing the GC due to name change will cost hundreds of dollars, and she would have to send back the old card then wait several months for the replacement. Then when applying for citizenship, they will run her name check using both her maiden name and new name, thus increasing the chances of getting stuck in name check. It's up to you and her to weigh the pros and cons and decide whether it is worth it to change her name now, or wait a few years and do it as part of the naturalization process.

Thank you

Thanks for your suggestion. Right now I do not think we are at any disadvantage by having a different last name on my wife's records. so, probably we will wait for naturalization process.
