Hi I recently became a permanant resident and i had an affadavit of support. My question is I am a student can i now apply for financial aid or would that be a public charge?
also i have no health insurance can i apply for medicaid or would that also be a public charge?
basically i am trying to figure out what kind of government benifits can i get with out it affecting my affadavit of support

Why are you so interested in government benefits? Do you or your spouse pay taxes?

The I-864 makes you ineligible for most means-tested benefits.
 
absolutelly, you can apply for financial aide, they will ask for your income tax return and that of your spouse so they can calculate how much they can give you also, even if you are not qualified ' say you guys made too much money then they will atleast offer you govt. student loans with the lowest interest rate out there in the country.
For the medicaid part I would stay away from it, apply for medical insurance from your job or your spouse job or from your school. Also stay away from any benefits that is beng offered to low income citizens, like food stamps, hosing, etc.
just work hard and be a good citizen so that nothinhg will stand in your way when you are applying for your citizenship.
And most importantly pay your taxes and file for returns when they are due.

YES WE DO PAY TAXES..THE REASON I AM ASKING IS THAT I WANT TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID FOR SCHOOL BUT I DONT WNAT IT TO AFFECT MY CO-SPONSER!!

no, you also asked about Medicaid...

You are eligible for FAFSA at school since you are a resident now.
 
thanks lucymo..i just dont want to do anything that will hurt my cosponser ..also i asked about medicaid but i do not need it...my job gives me health insurance.
