It is possible to get your passport back on the same day. It just depends on the staff at the consulate.

I don't know that much about the process. I used DHL to do a hand delivery of my forms. Maybe you should try that. Then email them to see if they have you on file.

When my number is current, will the embassy arrange the interview or do I need to call in to find out? I don't trust the postal service here.

Our baby was born two weeks ago. Do I need to submit an entire DS230 form for the baby? And what about the "children" section in the original DS230 forms that my wife and I submitted...

Ok, signature updated. I just copied your template, hope that is ok. I have emailed the KCC and am awaiting a reply. We used DHL to send the documents, and got the Shipment Delivered notification on the 30th May.
