There was a talk of this for I-140 but was turned down by INS.. they would not consider it for general (Eb1/2/3) category....but would consider it for nurses (schedule A) workers....even that proposal was turned down...

You can keep extending your H1 if you have any GC(labor/140/485) pending for more than a year .... if you join the new employer you may have to restart your GC process ..unless you strike a deal with your consulting company to bring you on board as a future employer .. choice is your...

First and foremost ask your company to get you a duplicate approval notice...You should get that in about 1-2 months time. Next ... I think you have no choice but to appear for the consulate interview...I think your case seems to be very genuine... You should be ok .... Also search this...
